Emergency Management Specialist – Alexandria, VA

I’m currently seeking an Emergency Management Specialist for a client located in the Alexandria, VA area. The role involves recruiting, training, and managing emergency volunteers, participating in exercise control and evaluation, writing and reviewing emergency management plans, policies and procedures, and conducting outreach and education on emergency preparedness and resilience. The position also supports emergency responses and planned events during and outside of normal business hours.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support a variety of emergency management programs and activities, including emergency planning, community outreach, volunteer coordination, training and exercises, and emergency response.
  • Recruit, train, retain, and ensure readiness of emergency volunteers.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations and conduct outreach to civic and community organizations and members to promote volunteerism and emergency preparedness.
  • Facilitate and support meetings with city departments and community stakeholders to recommend appropriate courses of action to enhance preparedness and resilience.
  • Conduct independent research, prepare, develop, and manage assigned projects/programs in a variety of complex emergency management areas.
  • Coordinate and work with community and business partners to advance emergency preparedness, community resilience, and volunteerism.
  • Perform various emergency management roles day to day and during emergencies, EOC activations, and planned events.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in emergency management.
  • Experience level:
    Experienced.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
Certificates and Licenses Required
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Driver’s License.
  • Completion of Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800 and training in the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP E/L/K 146) within twelve (12) months of hire.
Work Hours and Compensation

Shift: First

Hours:

8 AM – 5 PM

Salary: $42 – $46 per hour
