The Senior Residential Counselor (SRC) provides supervision of residential counselors to ensure the individuals who live in the home are provided with quality care, supports and instruction in daily living skills based on the individual’s treatment plan. The SRC provides oversight of daily operations and service provision to individuals with serious mental illness, substance use disorders and/or a co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder.

Oversees program management of the home by maintaining resident records in accordance with HIPPA standards, assures program site is clean, safe and in good repair. The SRC monitors compliance with State licensing, City and department policies and regulations.

The ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of mental and physical handicaps; thorough knowledge of household coordination and maintenance; thorough knowledge of the nature of mental illness, intellectual disabilities or developmental delay and the role of residential support services; empathy with the problems with intellectual disabilities; ability to conduct task analysis and collect behavioral data; ability to conduct individual and group classes for consumers with mental and physical handicaps;

ability to utilize observations to record and document consumer performance and progress; ability to identify behavior which indicates movement toward a crisis situation; ability to plan and lead the work of subordinate counselors; ability to obtain the cooperation of others in difficult situations.

• Responsible for selection process of new counselors
• Orients, trains and supervises counselors on an ongoing basis. Meets with supervises for both individual and group supervision.
• Maintains the staff schedule to ensure all shifts are covered.
• Coordinates with supervises to ensure that food and all other items required for the residence are purchased on a weekly basis, within the budgetary requirements.
• Ensures that residents are provided with services in accordance with the goals and objectives on the treatment plan
• Documents client services, supports and interventions in the clinical record and oversees the quality of supervises’ documentation.
• Participates in treatment team meetings.
• Ensures counselors maintain required training and certifications.
• Provides direct observation and feedback to counselors through announced and unannounced visits
• Reviews and approves Kronos for supervises; approves and monitors use of overtime.
• Maintains current policies and procedures manuals at the residence.
• Develops and maintains rapport with neighbors and other community members
• Attends and participates in monthly supervision meetings.
• Utilize and maintain a City credit card to purchase food and household supplies, etc. Reconcile monthly purchase cards statement for approval.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

The Center for Adult Services (CAS) provides programs and services in Aging;
Adult Protective Services;
Clinical & Emergency Services; and Community & Residential Support Services for seniors and for persons with mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance use disorders. CAS provides compassionate and effective person-centered services based on best practices. Our teams support self-determination, safety and recovery for Alexandria residents affected by abuse, neglect, mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance abuse disorders.

Two-Year College Degree; two years experience working with clients with intellectual disabilities, mental illness, Substance Abuse Disorder or domestic violence in a residential setting and supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
