Radiation Therapist

Job Description

Inova Alexandria Hospital is seeking a full‑time Radiation Therapist 1 to join the team. This position is full‑time (40 hours) scheduled Monday–Friday 8:00 am‑4:30 pm. • Communicates effectively with patients, families, medical staff, healthcare team members, supervisors and outside contacts.
• Responsible for treatment modalities and protocols to accurately set‑up and administer treatments on a daily basis.
• Verifies the proper functioning of linear accelerators, simulators and computed tomography machines.
• Performs simulation procedures for initial patient set‑up while verifying equipment.
• Positions patients for initial treatment, verifies beam directional devices, ancillary aids and blocking via record and verification systems before initiating radiation beam; maintains accurate records of daily treatments and other required records.
• Ensures portal verification films are taken at appropriate intervals; recognizes the need for adjustments by comparing simulation/portal films or patient positions; performs daily quality assurance on linear accelerators, simulator and computed tomography machines to verify accurate output; records findings and reports erratic operations of equipment.
• May perform additional duties as assigned.

• Education:
  
  associate degree required upon start.
• Certifications:
  • American Registered Radiologic Technologist in Radiation Therapy or registry eligible within one year of employment.
  • Basic Life Support form AHA required upon start.

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in radiation therapy.
• Completion of a regulated radiation program.
