Job Summary:
The Network and Wireless Engineer is responsible for maintaining reliable wired and wireless network services across multiple locations. This senior-level role involves configuration, routing, deployment, wireless testing, and resolving complex connectivity issues to ensure optimal network performance and availability.
Responsibilities:- Configure and troubleshoot switches, routers, VLANs, trunks, and routed networks.
- Diagnose network issues including latency, packet loss, loops, congestion, and performance problems.
- Maintain approved configuration backups and detailed network documentation.
- Support deployment and replacement of switches, routers, controllers, and access points.
- Review network redundancy, capacity, and identify single points of failure.
- Support DHCP, DNS, authentication, network printing, server, and endpoint dependencies.
- Troubleshoot wireless association, authentication, roaming, capacity, and interference issues.
- Conduct targeted wireless testing and validation.
- Coordinate firmware and configuration updates across devices.
- Develop implementation, testing, and rollback procedures for network changes.
- Coordinate escalations with carriers, circuit providers, and manufacturers.
- Maintain network diagrams, addressing records, configuration standards, and change logs.
- Serve as Level 3 escalation point for network and wireless incidents.
Certifications:
- Expertise in Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking including VLANs, spanning tree, link aggregation, routing, QoS, and redundancy.
- Experience with enterprise wireless controllers and access points.
- Knowledge of 802.1X, RADIUS, certificate-based authentication, and directory integration.
- Proficiency in packet capture and protocol analysis tools.
- Ability to analyze wireless coverage, channel usage, power levels, density, and interference.
- Skill in configuration backup and recovery processes.
- Experience with structured change and rollback planning.
- Capability to manage multi-site network operations.
- Minimum of five years enterprise networking experience.
- Minimum of three years supporting enterprise wireless environments.
- Experience in distributed public-sector, education, or campus networks.
Certifications:
- CCNP Enterprise certification or equivalent.
- Aruba professional-level certification or equivalent.
- CWNP certification.
- ITIL Foundation certification.
- Vendor-specific certifications aligned with the installed network and wireless manufacturers.
- Role may require coordination with multiple vendors and escalation points.
- Must adhere to strict change management and rollback procedures to minimize network downtime.
- Support for multi-site environments with potential for on-call or escalation duties.
- Work schedule may include standard business hours with potential for after-hours support as needed for network incidents or maintenance.
