The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Nurse position is based in Alexandria, Virginia. This role involves providing post-operative care to surgical patients in a fast‑paced, community hospital environment with 24/7 surgical services across multiple specialties. The PACU Nurse will support patients recovering from anesthesia, ensuring safety, comfort, and optimal outcomes.

• Location:
  
  Alexandria, Virginia
• Shift: 12‑hour shifts, early starts and variable times within 5:30 AM–9:00 PM.
• Schedule:
  
  Full‑time, 36 hours per week, Monday‑Friday, rotating between Pre‑Operative (Pre Op) and Post‑Anesthesia Care.
• Required Qualifications:
  
  Valid RN license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or an active multistate compact (NLC) license; minimum 2 years of PACU RN experience; BLS, ACLS, and PALS (American Heart Association) certificates; strong perianesthesia background preferred;
  Epic EMR experience preferred; experience with pediatric patients age 10+; trauma/critical care experience not required.
• Float:
  First to float between Pre‑Op, ECT, and GI Endoscopy (preop & recovery only); no intra‑operative GI Endoscopy assignment.
• On‑Call:
  Rotating 2nd Call commitment, 3 weekend/holiday shifts and 3 weekday shifts every 6 weeks; covers evenings, nights, weekends, holidays as scheduled.
• Holidays:
  Day before and possibly the day after; includes observed holidays within the rotation.
• Attire:
  Maroon scrubs in PACU, ECT, Endoscopy; navy scrubs or OR maroon when assigned to Pre‑Op.
• Patient Population:
  Inpatient and outpatient surgical patients across multiple specialties, pediatric patients age 10 and above.
• Unit Details: 13 bays (10 Phase 1, 3 Phase
  2); nurse‑to‑patient ratios of 2:1 in Phase 1 and 3:1 in Phase 2.
• Common Cases:
  Total joint procedures, spine, orthopedic sports medicine, general surgery, vascular, plastics, urology, ENT, ECT, GI endoscopy.
• Facility Environment:
  Community hospital with 8 operating rooms, operating 24/7, requiring teamwork in a fast‑paced setting.
• Assignment Length: 10 weeks.
• Additional Information: ECG exam on Day 2 of orientation (pass/fail, single attempt). Attendance at optional pre‑start study session is recommended. Candidates must be comfortable with variable start times and on‑call expectations.
