The Bakery Lead is responsible for overseeing bakery production and operational standards within the department. This role ensures adherence to company policies, maintains product quality and freshness, and optimizes inventory management. The Bakery Lead does not have direct supervisory responsibilities over team members but plays a crucial role in driving operational excellence and supporting overall bakery success.
Requirements- Valid Serv Safe Food Safety Certification in good standing. BJ’s covers applicable cost and training.
- 2+ years of experience in bakery operations, retail, or food production.
- Strong knowledge of bakery production processes and food safety guidelines.
- Ability to analyze data and implement process improvements to optimize efficiency.
- Detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (MS Word, Excel, Email).
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must maintain all training and required certifications.

- Lead bakery department operations:
Execute standards and ensure efficient production and high quality. - Manage inventory proactively:

Prepare, bake, and merchandise items to company standards. - Accurate item labeling:
Price, label, and remain compliant with policies. - Analyze production and sales data to identify improvement opportunities.
- Sustain sanitation and safety compliance with Serv Safe guidelines.
- Report operational concerns to management: equipment, shortages, food safety risks.
- Execute proper product rotation using FIFO.
- Conduct quality and date checks:
Inspect products and remove expired items. - Seasonal promotion execution:
Merchandising initiatives and special event displays. - Support club initiatives: audits, shrink control, and performance tracking.
- Routine case inspections:
Ensure optimal conditions in bakery cases and coolers. - Receiving and inspection:
Verify accuracy of produce shipments. - Inventory audit support:
Minimize shrink and maintain accurate records. - Product quality assurance:
Monitor freshness and perform checks. - Assume additional duties as assigned.
- Maintain regular, predictable, full attendance.
- Frequent standing and movement on hard surfaces.
- Regular lifting of up to 30 pounds; occasional heavier lifting with assistance.
- Exposure to temperature variations from ovens, freezers, and refrigerators.
- Potential exposure to cleaning agents and bakery-related allergens.
$19.00 - $23.75 per hour. The range may vary based on location, education, experience, and qualifications.
