Classified Technician and Skilled Trades

• Perform preventive maintenance (oils motors, change belts and filters, paint and clean) on boilers and related equipment such as ventilating and refrigeration equipment, air conditioning machinery, generators, suction fans, pumps, and compressors.
• Maintain a logbook that details the operation of boilers and/or pumping equipment and lists any maintenance work performed.
• Start and stop pumps, fire gas or oil fired boilers, adjust fuel and airflow, regulate water level, read gauges to check water level, steam pressure, and operation of valves and auxiliary pumps.
• Perform minor repairs on boilers and related equipment; assist skilled workers in major repairs.
• Administer chemicals to closed systems, cooling towers, and boilers, test water for chemical content, and oversee wastewater treatment.
• Ensure proper maintenance of pump stations and all A/C and heating units.
• Monitor, adjust, and verify operation of plant and all building HVAC equipment through electronic automation systems.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Operating Engineer 2:
  Two years of experience or training in the operation or maintenance of large stationary engines or mechanical equipment.
• Operating Engineer 1:
  One year of experience or training in the operation or maintenance of large stationary engines or mechanical equipment.
• EPA refrigerant recycling and recovery certification (Section 608) required for positions handling refrigerants.
