Our client is a local government agency dedicated to providing inclusive, innovative, and high-quality public services to its residents. The Youth Advisor will assist with ensuring efficient and effective program operations by identifying and recruiting qualified youth, implementing program activities, recruiting private and public sector employers for programs, establishing good customer relations with employers, monitoring work site performance, developing career readiness and career exploration curriculum, leading career readiness and life skills workshops, providing employment counseling, working with participants to develop good work habits, and serving as a role model.

This is a full-time position based in Alexandria, VA, paying $21.00 per hour. This is a contract position.

Responsibilities
  • Determine applicants' eligibility for the Summer Youth Employment Program
  • Provide recommendations for transition plans and activities to enhance participants’ employability
  • Facilitate Career Readiness and Life Skills workshops
  • Conduct program orientation for participants and work site supervisors
  • Perform weekly work/training site visits to support participants and employers
  • Assist participants with transportation options
  • Maintain participant records related to hours, attendance, and wages
  • Prepare and distribute program paperwork
  • Identify and resolve programmatic issues
  • Perform special duties or projects as assigned
Qualifications
  • Completion of college-level courses in counseling, education, social work, or related field
  • One year of experience in human service work involving public contact
  • Knowledge of employment and training needs of economically disadvantaged youth
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Technical proficiency in MS Word and database management systems
  • Valid driver's license issued by the state of residence
Preferred Qualifications
  • BA/BS in Social Science, Business, or Education
  • Experience in job development with economically disadvantaged youth
  • Experience utilizing database management systems for case work
