EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I (NIGHT SWEEPER OPERATOR) STREETS CLEANING PROGRAM An Overview
An Equipment Operator I, operates one or more types of automotive equipment and performs a variety of manual tasks in connection with such operations. Employees in this class are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of several types of automotive equipment. Incumbents may service and make minor mechanical repairs. Assignments are outlined in detail by a supervisor, standard procedures are followed, and work is inspected periodically for safety and economy of operation.
TheOpportunity
- Operates different types of sweepers in the operation of a scheduled sweeping program
- Delivery of mulch or wood chips to citizens/residents
- Operates a leaf vacuum truck, or collection of bio‑degradable leaf bags on a scheduled route
- Operates a variety of equipment in cleaning and hauling snow from roads and streets; also shovels snow when not operating heavy trucks
- Operates a dump truck in connection with transportation of sand, stone, asphalt, gravel and other supplies
- Operates a rear‑load packer refuse collection truck and leads the work of Laborers or Refuse collectors
- Assists in loading and unloading materials and equipment
- Responds to citizen inquiries regarding refuse and recycling services
- Responds to emergency or special events activity as needed
- Performs related work as required
To qualify for this position all candidates must possess a High School Degree or GED; one (1) year experience in the operation of maintenance and/or construction equipment; good knowledge of departmental operations and procedures; some vocational training as related to construction/maintenance field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Ability to perform heavy manual labor in all types of weather;
must have a valid Commercial Driver's License.
To be considered as an ideal candidate, one should also possess three (3) years of experience in the operation of maintenance and/or construction equipment.
This position requires the successful completion of pre‑employment background checks including but not limited to drug testing, criminal background. This is a fulltime position with Peak and non‑Peak hours. Peak (March – October 10pm – 6:30am) non‑Peak (November – February 7:00am – 3:30pm)
