County of York's Sheriff’s Office seeks a Full‑Time Administrative Major who reports to the Chief Deputy.

Job Summary

The Administrative Major coordinates activities within the Police Services Division and works under the general supervision of the Chief Deputy to ensure compliance with established rules and regulations.

Essential Duties

Be committed to the mission of the Sheriff’s Office and County as a member of the management team.

Be punctual for scheduled work and use time appropriately.

Perform required amount of work in a timely fashion with a minimum of errors.

Maintain a neat and professional appearance and demeanor.

Ensure quality in work performed to facilitate the delivery of quality services.

Be available for on‑call status after non‑business hours (weekends, and holidays).

Maintain confidentiality of information concerning clients, personnel, and Sheriff/County operations.

Ensure effective management within the Police Services – Administrative Division.

Guide departmental decisions by establishing, monitoring, and developing policies and procedures.

Complete requirements by scheduling and assigning employees and following up on work results.

Oversee and coordinate civilian support staff duties and responsibilities, coaching, counseling, disciplining employees, and appraising job results.

Review and complete employee evaluations as appropriate.

Assist with the formulation of key data analytics for presentation to communities of York County.

Maintain Police Services staffing by recruiting, recommending, and hiring new employees.

Assist the Sheriff and Chief Deputy by addressing citizen questions regarding policing service at town meetings and other informed settings.

Oversee citizen complaints against sheriff office personnel and take appropriate action in accordance with policy.

Assist the Sheriff by serving as a member of the Sheriffs Office collective bargaining team in evaluating union proposals.

Assist the Sheriffs Office with the preparation of the law enforcement budget and ensure adherence to authorized expenditures and analyze variances.

Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional associations.

Oversee training for compliance for sheriff’s office members.

Identify and understand technology needs and maintain contact with associated vendors.

Serve as the point of contact with the Sheriffs Office Maine Law Enforcement Program (MLEAP) accreditation program.

Assist with the maintenance of the Property and Evidence storage and conduct periodic audits.

Serve as a liaison with the Access Integrity Unit – Maine State Police and serve the Local Agency Security Officer (LASO).

Manage the acquisition and allocation of personnel equipment, vehicles, uniforms, and conduct needs assessment on an annual basis.

Conduct grant research and develop and track submissions.

Be the point of contact to ensure the Sheriffs Office is compliant with NIBRES and UCR reporting.
