Educational Technician III

Regional School Unit No. 57, Office of the Superintendent, Waterboro, ME 04087

Reports To:

Building Principal or Designee

Qualifications Desired
  • Documentation of at least three (3) years of post-secondary education or a combination equivalent to 90 hours of approved study in an educationally related field.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills; understanding of the instructional process; and awareness of student needs, including those of students with special needs.
  • Knowledge of emergency, health, and safety procedures preferred.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing in-service training as requested by administration.
  • Must hold or be eligible for State of Maine Educational Technician III Authorization and CHRC Approval Certificate.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality regarding student information, as required by law.
  • Demonstrated aptitude and competence for successful fulfillment of assigned responsibilities. Prior experience in education is desirable but not required.

Work Year:
School year, as defined by the Educational Technician III Bargaining Agreement.

Job Goal:
To assist teaching staff in maintaining an effective classroom environment where students can fully benefit from instructional programs and available resources.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Instructional Support
    • Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning introduced by the teacher/content specialist under direct supervision.
    • Assist in developing strategies to reinforce material based on student needs, interests, and abilities.
    • Support independent study, enrichment, and remedial work assigned by the teacher/content specialist.
  • Non-Instructional Support
    • Administer, score, and record assessments as directed.
    • Assist students with instructional materials and equipment.
    • Provide input to the IEP process and parent conferences when requested.
Computer Lab Responsibilities
  • Provide primary support for computer lab technology, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and software updates.
  • Support network functions for staff and students (user setup, upgrades, maintenance).
  • Provide building-wide technology support as needed.
  • Assist with software support and user assistance.
  • Maintain current hardware and software inventory in collaboration with the Technology Coordinator.
  • Prepare and manage the computer lab budget, including ordering supplies and software.
  • Support mobile lab technology and assist staff with technology integration into curriculum.
Classroom Responsibilities
  • Copying, typing, filing, cutting, laminating, bulletin boards, calendars, and book orders.
  • Assist with supervision duties including recess, lunch, bus, study hall, and detention.
  • Support student supervision during drills, assemblies, and field trips.
  • Provide escort and assistance services as needed.
Library/Media Responsibilities
  • Check materials in and out.
  • Shelve returned items.
  • Process and catalog new materials (books, periodicals, audiovisual).
  • Assist students in locating materials.
  • Support library/media instruction and activities appropriate to age level.
Special Education Responsibilities
  • Assist with IEP preparation.
  • Prepare instructional materials (copying, filing, laminating, etc.).
  • Provide escort and assistance services to students as needed.
  • Serve as primary source of information and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Introduce new learning activities that are pre-planned in collaboration with the classroom teacher or content specialist.

Hours, work year, and conditions are established by the RSU 57 School Board.
