The Medical Nurse Practitioner provides advanced, independent primary medical care to a designated patient population within the IMBH Department. Under indirect supervision, this role performs comprehensive health assessments, diagnoses and treats acute and chronic medical conditions, prescribes medications, and delivers preventive and educational services. The Nurse Practitioner collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure continuity of care, regulatory compliance, and high‑quality patient outcomes in a secure correctional setting.

• Perform comprehensive medical examinations, evaluations, and health assessments.
• Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions in a correctional healthcare environment.
• Obtain complete patient histories and develop individualized treatment plans, ensuring accuracy and completeness using the Problem‑Oriented Medical Record (POMR) format.
• Prescribe pharmaceuticals, medications, and treatment regimens within licensure scope and state law.
• Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic studies (laboratory tests, EKGs, radiology) and modify treatment plans based on results.
• Manage overall patient care, including chronic disease management, preventive care, follow‑up consultations, and coordination of specialty referrals.
• Provide clinical consultation, guidance, and support to nursing staff and other healthcare team members.
• Supervise or coordinate patient care activities and clinical workflows as needed.
• Participate in planning and development of health programs, policies, and procedures to improve patient care and outcomes.
• Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and infection prevention/control standards, including OSHA requirements.
• Maintain complete, accurate, and timely medical records documenting all services rendered.
• Participate in quality assurance activities, quality improvement initiatives, peer review, and clinical training or in‑service education.
• Demonstrate adherence to internal core values (accountability, collaboration, adaptability, attention to detail, results‑oriented).
• Respond to requests from security staff and county staff in accordance with facility guidelines, employee conduct standards, and established chain of command.
• Maintain professionalism, emotional stability, and clinical judgment while working in a secure detention/correctional environment.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support medical operations, patient care services, and organizational objectives.

• Knowledge of advanced practice nursing principles, patient assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
• Knowledge of pharmacology and ability to prescribe medications within scope of practice.
• Knowledge of correctional healthcare clinical operations, substance abuse recovery, accreditation requirements, and regulatory standards.
• Ability to supervise, guide, and support clinical staff.
