Description

Assist the Principal in providing leadership and supervision in administering the educational program of an Elementary School to promote the educational development and achievement of students in accordance with Board of Education policies, administrative procedures, rules and regulations, and applicable law. Provide leadership in program development and improvement, professional staff development, and serve as Principal in the absence of the Principal.

Functions
  • Assist in the development and administration of school programs consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Provide leadership and direction to staff with regard to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of educational programs, including curricular and extra‑curricular activities.
  • Promote a school environment that is safe and conducive to individualized instruction, cooperative curriculum development, and student learning.
  • Prepare class schedules, master schedules, and extracurricular activities.
  • Assist in ensuring that Board policies and procedures are implemented and followed at the school.
  • Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Encourage staff to continue to grow professionally and to experiment with new approaches or strategies to teaching.
  • Assist in coordinating the work of school staff and school district program leaders to develop and implement instructional programs and teaching practices.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and work with teaching staff to modify instructional methods to fit students' needs, including students with special needs.
  • Assist in the recruitment and selection of employees, the proper maintenance of employee personnel files, the administration of collective bargaining agreements, corrective action, and other human resource issues.
  • Involve staff in the evaluation of programs and the planning of new programs.
  • Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensure that student conduct and attendance conforms with the school's standards and school district policies.
  • Supervise and evaluate teaching staff and other building employees in accordance with the school district's evaluation plan, and make recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement and continued employment.
  • Assist in the budgetary and financial affairs of the school consistent with school district policies.
  • Articulate, advocate, and cultivate core values that define the school's culture and stresses the imperative of child‑centered education, high expectations and student support, equity, inclusiveness, social justice, openness, caring and trust, and continuous improvement.
  • Act with cultural competence and responsiveness in interactions, decision‑making and practice.
  • Ensure that each student has equitable access to effective teachers, learning opportunities, academic and social support, and other resources necessary for success.
  • Address student misconduct in a positive, fair and unbiased manner.

Qualifications Certification
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with General Administrative Endorsement

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy and ability to differentiate instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of Elementary school curriculum and concepts.
