Role Description

The Customs Entry Writer is a full-time, on-site role based in Algonquin, IL. This role is responsible for day‑to‑day tasks including: filing ISF's timely and accurately; reviewing commercial documents for accuracy; classifying goods under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule; determining duty rates; and verifying proper valuation and country‑of‑origin information. The Customs Entry Writer will coordinate with clients, carriers, and internal teams to resolve documentation issues, track shipments, and respond to customs inquiries or holds.

The role also involves maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge of customs regulations, supporting audit activities, and contributing to continuous improvement of entry and compliance processes.

Qualifications
  • Two to three years experience in customs brokerage, import documentation preparation, and U.S. Customs entry processing, including HTS classification and duty calculation.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing ISF documents, commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and other shipment documents.
  • Knowledge of U.S. customs regulations, trade compliance requirements, and related government agency rules (e.g., FDA, USDA, EPA) is highly beneficial.
  • Proficiency with customs entry software, logistics or freight forwarding systems, and standard office applications (e.g., Excel, Word, e-mail).
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with customers, carriers, and regulatory authorities.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple shipments and meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an on‑site team environment in Algonquin, IL, while taking ownership of assigned entries and tasks.
  • LCB is highly preferred but not mandatory
