Senior Accounting Manager
Real estate investment firm in east Los Angeles is seeking a Senior Accounting Manager that reports to the Assistant Vice President of Accounting and plays a key leadership role in overseeing the daily operations of the Corporate Accounting function. This position is responsible for managing accounting processes, supervising accounting staff and outsourced resources, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, and supporting compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities- Participate in company-sponsored training, educational programs, and team-building activities.
- Attend company events and meetings, which may occasionally require overnight travel.
- Recognize and adapt to cyclical accounting workloads, including peak periods during month-end close, quarterly reporting, audits, and tax filings.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
- Oversee accounting activities for corporate entities and various lines of business.
- Manage intercompany transactions and reconciliations among corporate entities and subsidiaries.
- Oversee corporate cost allocation methodologies across properties and corporate departments.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
- Analyze financial data and review financial reports and statements for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
- Assist in the preparation, review, and maintenance of audit schedules and supporting documentation.
- Serve as a key liaison during interim and annual audits, providing timely responses to auditor requests.
- Support the review and approval process for annual tax returns and audited financial statements.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop staff accountants, outsourced personnel, and off-site consultants.
- Provide ongoing coaching, training, and performance feedback to ensure team effectiveness and professional growth.
- Coordinate training initiatives related to accounting systems, technology, and corporate accounting processes.
- Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and exceptional customer service.
- Develop a thorough understanding of agreements with third parties, including financial obligations, compliance requirements, and reporting deadlines.
- Partner with operational and corporate departments to address financial and accounting matters.
- Support training of site personnel on proper accounting procedures and financial transaction recording.
- Prepare special analyses, reports, and billings as requested by management or external stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting efficiency, and internal controls.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; CPA designation or advanced degree preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- 3+ years of supervisory or management experience.
- Experience in corporate accounting and/or real estate accounting preferred.
- Strong knowledge of accounting operations, financial reporting, audit support, and internal controls.
- Demonstrated experience in employee supervision, motivation, training, and professional development.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Experience with Yardi software preferred.
- Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze large data sets and translate findings into actionable insights.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making capabilities.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and continuous improvement.
