Position: Power System Application Engineer 3

Become a Power System Application Engineer 3 at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this role you will work with a team to develop and implement critical Real‑Time Power System Applications, work with vendors to resolve application issues, maintain existing Remedial Action Schemes (RAS) and develop new expansion projects using C, C++, and C#.

Additionally, You’ll
  • Assist in developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining Real‑Time Remedial Action Scheme (RAS) applications on Energy Management System (EMS) and Unified Analytic Platform (UAP) on Centralized Remedial Action Scheme (CRAS).
  • Perform tier 3 support on sophisticated technical issues associated with Real‑Time RAS applications.
Responsibilities
  • Ensures technical issues and problems are resolved in a timely, efficient and cost‑effective manner utilizing available resources.
  • Supervises, leads, and coordinates work with full time and contract employees in the execution of new technical strategies, equipment or standards.
  • Conducts life cycle assessments for utility infrastructure materials and processes; improves preventive maintenance procedures to decrease overall downtime.
  • Conducts risk assessments and implements risk mitigation strategies to ensure the safety and reliability of engineering projects.
  • Supports audits and inspections; ensures compliance with relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Provides engineering and technical expertise and guidance for the identification, analysis and resolution of high impact, complex and/or cross‑functional problems in engineering.
  • Ensures the engineering facility design basis is controlled and design basis documentation is maintained.
  • Conducts engineering and related studies with full technical responsibility for planning and coordinating high‑impact complex projects.
  • Provides support and technical training to junior engineering levels.
  • Protects the company’s physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accesses and manages private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other highly sensitive information with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a scientific/technical/math field.
  • Five or more years of experience performing engineering work in operations, production, construction or maintenance environments.
  • Possess a valid Class C Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three or more years of experience in developing and maintaining complex programs using C, C++, or C#.
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving system technical issues.
  • Experience and technical knowledge of SCADA and control systems.
  • Solid understanding of infrastructure and networking capabilities to design highly resilient systems.
  • Experience with Linux shell scripting.
  • Experience with network traffic analysis.
  • Experience with GOOSE (Generic Object Oriented Substation Event) protocol.
Additional Information
  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Employees are required to work and reside in the state of California unless otherwise noted.

  • This position is a NERC/CIP impacted position. Prior to hiring, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training before gaining un‑escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
