Overview
Founded in 1935, Roto-Rooter is North America’s largest plumbing, drain cleaning, and water cleanup services provider, operating more than 100 company-owned branches, independent contractor territories, and about 400 independent franchise operations that serve roughly 90% of the U.S. population and parts of Canada.
First year Roto-Rooter service technicians can expect to earn an average of $55,000, with pay increasing quickly as experience grows. The company offers a 12‑week paid sewer and drain service training, plus ongoing education in the company’s plumbing school to advance to licensed plumber status.
Responsibilities- Diagnose plumbing and drain problems and provide cost estimates to close the sale.
- Perform sewer and drain cleaning services using specialized equipment and tools.
- Document estimates and invoices in writing and on a provided smartphone.
- Collect payment and move on to the next service call.
- Engage directly with customers, including vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly.
- Travel to customer locations efficiently and professionally.
- Enter customers’ residences to deliver reliable service and resolve plumbing issues.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Mechanical aptitude is desirable; prior plumbing experience is not required.
- Qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records will be considered in accordance with the Los Angeles County Fair Chance Ordinance and the California Fair Chance Act.
During training, service technicians are paid hourly at $17.00 to $20.00. After training, the hourly rate is at or above minimum wage, potentially higher for administrative hours. Technicians may earn commissions ranging from 16% to 22% of revenue, with additional commissions of $10 to $155 for product sales.
