CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Alice, TX – Women’s Services is a designated facility providing comprehensive care for expectant and new mothers. We rely on a dedicated team of Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, and OB scrub techs to support laboring, delivering, and postpartum patients and their families. Our goal is to deliver excellent care, prepare families for the excitement of new parenthood, and foster a supportive environment where each team member can grow and thrive.
SummaryThe competent Nurse, in the same or a similar clinical setting, practices independently and demonstrates familiarity with all relevant aspects of patient care. The role includes providing routine and complex nursing care, setting long‑range goals, managing clinical contingencies, delegating appropriately, and coordinating the interdisciplinary team.

Competencies:
Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders. - Provides nursing care in line with ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, following the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Address increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families.
- Administers medications and treatments following appropriate protocols, monitoring for side‑effects and therapeutic effectiveness.
- Documents patient history, symptoms, medication, and care plan.
- Assess learning needs, provide education to patients, families, and caregivers, and identify resources.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (preferred).
- One year of experience in a related nursing specialty (preferred).
- BLS required.
- RN License in state of employment or compact.
- Newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days.
- New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member and must complete initial onboarding and competency verification.
- Completion of all annual competency verification requirements.
- Perinatal RN residency or recent experience in a perinatal setting is preferred.
- AWHONN Intermediate/Advanced FHM, AWHONN Instructor Trainer, or NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C‑EFM) certification required.
- STABLE (Post‑resuscitation/Pre‑transport Stabilization Care of Sick Infants) certification required (Participant, Lead Instructor, or Support Instructor).
- NRP certification required.
- ACLS certification required.
- BLS – No grace period.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – 30 days for experienced associates; 90 days for new graduates/associates new to the specialty.
- Pediatric Life Support (PALS) – 30 days for experienced associates; 90 days for new graduates/associates new to the specialty.
- Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) – 60 days for experienced associates; 18 months for new graduates/associates new to the specialty.
- Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR) – 60 days for experienced associates; 18 months for new graduates/associates new to the specialty.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – 30 days for experienced associates; 60 days for new graduates/associates new to the specialty.
- AWHONN INTERMEDIATE FHM – 30 days for experienced associates; 60 days for new graduates/associates new to the specialty.
- STABLE (Neonatal Education) – 30 days for experienced associates; 60 days for new graduates/associates new to the specialty.

In accordance with the CHRISTUS Health License, Certification and Registration Verification Policy, all associates are required to obtain the required certifications for their respective positions within the designated time frame.
