Position Summary
Licensed Vocational Nurse I (LVN I) under the direction and supervision of the nurse supervisor to provide comprehensive public health nursing services throughout Region 11.
Location:
Alice, TX. Salary range: $3,409.83 – $4,252.00 per month.

The LVN I will perform a range of moderate to complex public health nursing tasks, including immunization, surveillance, vaccine management, and outreach to bilingual clients.
Essential Job Functions- Client Services (40%)
- Provide public health nursing services to clients with simple to complex health needs in Region 11.
- Conduct and coordinate immunization clinics for under‑immunized infants, children, and adults in underserved communities.
- Travel to administer vaccines, including home visits, while following eligibility, documentation, and confidentiality requirements.
- Administer vaccines and medications, conduct screening tests, and collect specimens for laboratory examination.
- Complete reports and documentation in accordance with nursing practices and electronic health record standards.
- Consumer Information (15%)
- Travel to coordinate and participate in educational activities to inform the public in English and Spanish about immunization safety.
- Distribute and ensure patient understanding of the Vaccine Information Statement (VIS).
- Vaccine Management (15%)
- Maintain proper handling and storage of vaccines, accurate inventory, and temperature logs.
- Respond to temperature excursions and complete biological reports.
- Transfer vaccines as needed and maintain documentation on VAOS, IMMTRAC2, CMIS, and PIOS.
- Immunization Registry (10%)
- Update information to maintain registry coverage for children under 6 years.
- Promote IMMTRAC2 among parents and providers and assist in reconciling questionable matches.
- Coordination of Services (10%)
- Coordinate with TB, STD, and CHI programs to provide comprehensive client care.
- Offer point‑of‑care STD testing and submit specimens to central lab.
- Contribute to community education on child fatality prevention, car seats, swim safety, bully prevention, suicide prevention, and healthy plate education.
- Surveillance (5%)
- Apply epidemiological methods to assess, prevent, and control disease.
- Investigate and document suspected Vaccine Preventable Disease cases and serious adverse events.
- Assist with Perinatal Hepatitis B and VPD case investigations.
- Other Duties (5%)
- Participate in disaster response and Continuity of Operations (COOP) activities, which may require alternate shift patterns.
- Knowledge of standards of immunization practices for children, adolescents, and adults.
- Knowledge of school immunization requirements.
- Knowledge of TVFC/ASN programs and Imm Trac
2. - Knowledge of medical terminology, office practices, administrative practices, and HIPAA confidentiality rules.
- Knowledge of English spelling, writing, record retention, and destruction.
- Knowledge of ordering, purchasing, and maintenance of receipt books.
- Skill in utilizing computer programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet).
- Skill in organizing meetings among multiple parties and coordinating travel arrangements.
- Ability to interpret immunization schedules, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, work harmoniously with colleagues, and resolve conflict.
- Ability to function independently, problem‑solve, and exercise professional judgment.
- Ability to attend work on a regular schedule; may work nights and weekends; travel required with reliable transportation.
- Ability to adhere to DSHS Universal Expectations, Guiding Principles, Code of Ethics, and Standards of Conduct.
- Ability to communicate effectively and present information and training to the public.
- Ability to understand and speak Spanish.
- Current Texas Vocational Nurse License, in good standing.
- BLS/CPR Certification.
- Valid Class C Texas driver’s license or equivalent.
