Primary
Purpose:
To perform skilled and work operating one of several types of heavy equipment used to excavate, load, transfer or move dirt, gravel, or other material in the maintenance or construction of streets, and other public properties. Milling and construction of new roads or streets. Employee may be assigned to lower-level equipment when necessary.
Qualifications:Education/Certification: Individual must possess a valid Texas Commercial Class B Driver's License with an acceptable driving record and all required endorsements. High School diploma/GED preferred.

Skills:
- Ability to understand and follow detailed written or verbal instructions.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Ability to correctly prioritize workload.
- Ability to work rotating work schedules and evenings as needed.
- Maintenance and basic repair procedures of a variety of equipment and power tools used to perform job assignments.
- Basic construction methods and practices.
Experience: 3+ years of heavy equipment operation preferred.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Tools/Equipment Used: Common construction tools, heavy equipment such as Roller/Sheep foot, Flat Wheel, Pneumatic (over 4,000 lbs.), Crack Sealer, Emergency Barricade Truck, Oil Distributors (2000 or over), Front-End Loader/Backhoe (construction), Wheel Loader (3cy or over), Patch Truck, Large Sweeper, Herbicide Truck, Dump Truck (10 & 14 yards).
Posture: Frequent standing, walking, climbing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent walking, climbing; grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension.
Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (80+ pounds) frequently.
Environment: Work outside on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, rain, wind, dust, dirt, sewage, water, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, and vibration; work around moving objects or vehicles; insects, rodents, may work alone, regular exposure to high, fast moving mechanical parts.
Specific Physical Demands: Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress, occasional prolonged or irregular hours.
