Yard Laborer
This role involves working outdoors in a vehicle yard, inspecting and checking in totaled vehicles received from insurance companies. You will visually assess each vehicle, document its condition using a handheld device, and attempt to start it using standard procedures. The position requires consistent outdoor labor in all weather conditions, basic car knowledge, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities- Inspect incoming totaled vehicles from insurance companies and perform a detailed inventory of each vehicle.
- Visually check vehicles for intact glass and identify any missing body panels such as fenders, bumpers, hoods, and trunks.
- Assess basic interior components including steering wheel, seats, radio, and other visible features, and record their condition.
- Attempt to start each vehicle and document whether it starts successfully.
- Use a battery pack to jump-start vehicles that do not start on their own and record the outcome.
- Enter all inspection and inventory information into a handheld device similar to a tablet accurately and in a timely manner.
- Work independently in the yard with little to no direct supervision while maintaining productivity and safety standards.
- Communicate with team members and supervisors via handheld radio as needed for support or clarification.
- Follow safety guidelines and use provided safety gear and gloves while working in the yard.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including rain and shine, on a regular basis.
- Basic car knowledge, including the ability to identify common vehicle parts such as fenders, bumpers, hoods, trunks, and basic interior components.
- Experience with general labor, construction, outdoor labor, yard work, or similar physically active roles.
- Ability to use a handheld device similar to a tablet and comfort with smartphones or tablets for data entry.
- Basic computer skills to support accurate data entry and use of handheld technology.
- Capability to learn new tasks quickly within a short training period and retain procedural information.
- High school diploma or GED.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with car detailing, yard work, or outdoor labor environments.
- Comfort working around vehicles in an industrial yard setting.
- Strong attention to detail when inspecting and documenting vehicle conditions.
- Good communication skills for using handheld radios and interacting with a small on-site team.
- Reliability and punctuality for a consistent Monday through Friday schedule.
You will join a small, close-knit team in a clean and organized environment where your independence and initiative are valued. The role offers a stable daytime schedule with primarily Monday through Friday hours and only occasional Saturday overtime based on business needs. You will receive structured training to help you ramp up quickly, along with the tools and safety gear needed to perform your work effectively.
WorkEnvironment
Work is conducted primarily outdoors in a fenced vehicle yard located in an industrial park. This is an outside job in all weather conditions, with breaks and lunch taken indoors and additional breaks provided during severe weather. Safety gear and gloves are supplied, while employees provide their own clothing. The dress code includes jeans and steel-toe footwear in a casual environment, with no large logos or offensive print allowed.
Training lasts approximately one week, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., followed by a regular shift of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Overtime may occasionally occur on Saturdays for approximately 4–5 hours, based on business needs.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Aliquippa, PA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Aliquippa, PA.
