In this position...
The OTA Plant Engineer is responsible for designing and maintaining secure, reliable software update pipelines for automotive modules—such as PCM, Infotainment, and Telematics—directly within the manufacturing environment. By integrating cloud-based architectures with in-plant network infrastructure, this role orchestrates seamless firmware rollouts using Python while ensuring that OTA processes do not disrupt assembly-line throughput or safety standards. Serving as a vital bridge between IT/cloud teams and plant operations, the engineer collaborates with cross-functional groups to validate update packages and monitor installation success rates.
They leverage telemetry data and diagnostic tools like Value
CAN or DET to swiftly troubleshoot failures and minimize production downtime. Furthermore, they maintain rigorous traceability and regulatory compliance by documenting workflows in systems like JIRA or Test Rail, ultimately driving innovation to enhance vehicle functionality and accelerate time-to-market.
- Architect and deploy cloud-based OTA pipelines that support concurrent updates across multiple vehicle modules (e.g., ADAS, BCM, PCM, telematics, etc.)
- Develop, test, and maintain robust update applications and scripts—packaged as standalone executables or containerized services—that automate version control and validation
- Collaborate with diagnostics and validation teams to define firmware validation criteria, leveraging tools such as DET, Value
CAN, Vector, and CANalyzer to verify update integrity - Coordinate with electrical test engineers to schedule in-vehicle or bench-top flashing sessions that align with production milestones and minimize plant downtime
- Monitor real-time telemetry and performance metrics during OTA rollouts, analyze diagnostic logs for error codes (DTCs), and drive continuous improvement of update success rates
- Document all OTA procedures, test plans, and post-update verification steps in Test Rail, JIRA, or equivalent platforms to ensure audit readiness and traceability
- Provide in-plant support for troubleshooting update failures, performing partial recoveries, and executing manual recovery procedures when automated processes encounter exceptions
- Train cross-functional teams on OTA best practices, including in-plant infrastructure setup and update scheduling, fostering a culture of collaboration and operational excellence
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering or a related subject
- 4+ years of related experience in cloud-based OTA pipelines, with a specific focus on Telematics modules, and associated testing methods
- Expertise in Cloud-Based Architectures:
Deep knowledge and experience in designing and deploying cloud-based OTA pipelines - Hands-on Experience with OTA Strategies:
Practical experience with multiple module OTA strategies for automotive systems (e.g., Driver Information, Powertrain, Telematics, ADAS, etc.) - Robust Programming
Skills:
Strong background in robust programming, particularly in languages like Python - In-plant Network Integration:
Understanding of how to integrate in-plant network infrastructure with cloud services for seamless update rollouts - Familiarity with Diagnostics Tools:
Knowledge of diagnostic tools and their application - Understanding of Production-Floor Constraints:
Awareness of how OTA processes interact with assembly-line throughput and safety standards - Collaboration
Skills:
Ability to serve as a bridge between IT/cloud teams and in-plant operations, collaborating with cross-functional groups (software validation, electrical testing, quality assurance) - Telemetry and Diagnostic Data Analysis:
Experience leveraging telemetry data and diagnostic logs from tools like Value
CAN, CANCase, DET, Vector, or CANalyzer to refine update workflows and troubleshoot failures - Communication
Skills:
Strong communication skills for interacting with various teams and documenting processes - Documentation
Skills:
Ability to document processes in systems like JIRA, Confluence or Test Rail for traceability and regulatory compliance - Troubleshooting and Recovery:
Capability to provide in-plant support for troubleshooting update failures, performing partial recoveries, and executing manual recovery procedures - Training Abilities:
Ability to train cross-functional teams on OTA best practices, including in-plant…
