Regulatory Compliance Specialist, Environmental Engineer
What You’ll Do
- Enhance our relationships with regulatory personnel and other key stakeholders so that Ford is viewed with a high level of trust and integrity.
- Develop the company’s policy positions and responses to proposed regulations and legislation dealing with:
- Product Stewardship and Circular Economy, including Extended Producer Responsibility for Packaging and Traction/Propulsion Battery Recycling.
- Vehicle and Service Chemical Substances of Concern.
- Vehicle CO2, Criteria Emissions, and Greenhouse Gases, Mobile Source Air Toxics, and Zero Emissions Mandates.
- EV and Charging Standards, Battery Durability/Recycling, and EV Infrastructure.
- Fuel Specifications, and Low Carbon and Renewable Fuels.
- Forecast and communicate future regulatory requirements to support Ford’s cycle plan development.
- Provide regulatory and technical input to the company on vehicle environmental and energy issues.
- Develop and maintain deep expertise on regulations and standards related to packaging and traction battery extended producer responsibility obligations for the automotive sector, substances of concern reporting and source reduction, including PFAS.
- Work with cross functional organizations within Ford (Product Development engineering, Planning, Marketing, Legal, Government Affairs) to develop and deliver product stewardship compliance and source reduction obligations for US states.
- Facilitate technical exchanges between Ford, regulatory authorities, and other key stakeholders.
- Participate in cooperative programs with regulators, OEMs, public domain organizations, and others.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, public policy, or equivalent experience.
- Positive problem‑solving attitude and conflict resolution skills.
- 3+ years in regulatory compliance or a related field.
- Ability to collaborate and connect cross‑functionally to implement new transformative and improved processes.
- Strong communication and cross‑functional networking skills.
- Strong decision‑making skills and resolve to raise issues to the right people at the right time.
- Ability to critically evaluate data and regulatory requirements to make key decisions.
- Ability to travel.
- Strong basis of understanding of Ford’s processes (technology development, product development, design validation and verification, vehicle operations and potential defect investigations).
- Experience in extended producer responsibility compliance and/or chemical substance reporting for complex durable goods.
This position is a salary grade 5 and ranges from $65,100 – $109,300. This position is a salary grade 6 and ranges from $74,300 – $124,500. This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $86,600 – $144,900. This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $99,100 – $166,200. Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate’s skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.

This position is hybrid. Candidates who are in commuting distance to a Ford hub location may be required to be onsite four or more days per week.
