Overview
Professional position utilizing engineering education and experience to design and release Upper Body structures. The D&R engineer is responsible for designing, developing, releasing, and validating parts with an emphasis on lightweight materials and designs.
Responsibilities- Understand structural design to meet vehicle attributes including FMVSS, NVH and Safety
- Lead Purchasing, Finance, and Cost Estimating in supplier selection to achieve program targets
- Develop component designs that meet customer requirements and Vehicle Operations manufacturing requirements
- Interface with engineers of surrounding components and systems (seats, electrical, etc.)
- Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred)
- 2 years of experience as structures D&R Engineer or relevant coursework for new graduates
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Working knowledge of Catia V5/V6 and/or 3DX CAD (preferred)
- Recent product development experience with Ford body commodities (plus)
- Knowledge of Ford software systems: AIMS, WERS, FEDE, and Integrator
- Applying DMAIC and DFSS principles
- Reviewing and signing‑off on component drawings and gaging practices
- Applying 8D, fishbone, and DOE problem‑solving methodology
- Creating Boundary Diagrams, P‑Diagrams, DFMEA & SCCAFs
- Reviewing CAE models and CAD drawings
- Leading design reviews based on Failure Mode Avoidance
- Maintaining DVP&R and signing‑off on DV tests – including FMVSS requirements
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) proficiency
This position is a salary grade 5 to 8 and ranges from $65,100 to $166,200. Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience.

Hybrid WorkThis position is hybrid. Candidates who are in commuting distance to a Ford hub location may be required to be onsite four or more days per week.
