Position Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced Individual Tax Manager / Senior 1040 Tax Preparer to join their Allen, TX team. This person will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and signing individual tax returns, including more complex 1040s involving Schedule C, Schedule E, K‑1s, rental property, and foreign income reporting.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced CPA or tax professional who enjoys client interaction, wants meaningful responsibility, and is looking for a calmer, more balanced environment than a traditional public accounting grind.
The ideal candidate has strong technical tax experience, loves working with people, and can operate independently while also helping coach and support other preparers.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and review individual tax returns, primarily Forms 1040
- Handle returns involving Schedule C, Schedule E, rental property, and K-1 income
- Work with partnership and S‑Corp K-1s
- Assist with foreign income recognition and related reporting, including FBAR/Form 114
- Interact directly with clients in a professional, service‑oriented manner
- Review work prepared by other tax preparers
- Coach, encourage, and support junior or less experienced preparers
- Return completed tax filings to clients and sign returns as appropriate
- Collaborate with the owner and team to ensure clients are assigned to the right tax professional
- Maintain high standards of accuracy, responsiveness, and client care
- Contribute to a positive, team‑oriented culture
Required Qualifications
- Active CPA license in the state of Texas is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of tax experience with a minimum 2 years as a CPA.
- At least 5 completed tax seasons preparing personal 1040 returns.
- Strong experience with:
- Individual 1040 tax returns
- Schedule C
- Schedule E
- Rental property tax matters
- Partnership and S‑Corp K‑1s
- Foreign income recognition
- FBAR/Form 114 reporting
- Very strong technical skills with heavy experience in the following applications:
- Intuit Quick Books Online
- Intuit Pro Connect
- MO 365 Teams, Outlook, and Excel
- Must have the ability to access and engage in online application training academies.
- Ability to work independently and manage client interactions via in‑person appointments, email, and telephone applications.
- Strong communication skills including relaying empathy and self awareness, as well as technical intelligence, when communicating in‑person, through email, or over the telephone.
- High attention to detail
- A genuine love for serving people and building client relationships
- Experience in a private CPA firm or regional/local public accounting firm
- Big 4 or larger firm experience with a desire for a more balanced, people‑centered environment
- Prior experience reviewing returns or coaching preparers
- Interest in growing into a larger leadership role over time
This role offers a unique annual schedule with heavier hours during tax season and significantly lighter periods during the rest of the year.
- Tax season hours are 40 hours a week January 15th through April 30th, in office
- Post tax season hours are as follows:
- May 1st through June 30th: 32 – 40 hours/week with 2‑3 remote workdays
- July 1st through January 14th: 20 – 30 hours a week, Mon – Thurs., mostly remote with occasional office hours for client meetings as needed.
Estimated annual workload is approximately 1,300–1,400 hours per year, making this a strong fit for someone who wants meaningful professional work without year‑round heavy overtime.
Compensation and Benefits- Base salary: $80,000–$90,000
- Bonus potential: up to $10,000
