Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Literacy Specialist, Alpha - $100,000/year USD

You’ve invested years building deep expertise in structured literacy—Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson, IMSE, or a Master's in reading instruction. You recognize a student's miscue and immediately identify the phonemic weakness to address. You can construct a phonics lesson without a scripted curriculum. That's baseline. It's not what sets you apart.

What sets you apart is that six-year-olds get excited when you enter the room. At Alpha, this position is first and foremost a Guide: a captivating, high-energy presence children are eager to work with. Your structured-literacy credentials open the door; your capacity to engage a K-2 classroom for a 20-minute workshop is what earns you the offer. If "captivating, high-energy presence" doesn't reflect who you are, this isn't the right role.

Alpha has dismantled conventional instruction. Students advance through academic content independently using AI-adaptive applications—no lectures, no textbooks, no mandated pacing. Your position represents the one area where human expertise cannot be replaced. You create small-group reading workshops informed by live student performance data, and you facilitate motivation sessions that ensure 100% of your students reach their weekly app targets through Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, age-appropriate gamification).

Your initial months center on winning over the classroom. Workshops must be engaging, appropriately leveled, and demonstrably effective. Student satisfaction metrics and "love your Guide" survey results (targeting 90%+) provide direct measurement. Once you establish that foundation, your responsibilities expand: analyzing AI-generated performance insights to refine upcoming instruction, communicating fluency improvements and decoding progress to parents, and helping shape how Alpha's K-2 reading model develops in tandem with adaptive technology.

As Alpha opens new campuses, your work becomes the blueprint for reading instruction across the network.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Creating and facilitating small-group K-2 reading workshops rooted in structured-literacy approaches (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, IMSE, or comparable), informed by live student data
  • Facilitating daily motivation sessions that ensure 100% of students meet their weekly adaptive-app target, leveraging Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, age-appropriate gamification)
  • Conducting and interpreting running records, fluency assessments, and decoding evaluations to monitor progress and refine instruction for subsequent sessions
  • Analyzing AI-generated performance insights from Alpha's adaptive learning platforms to differentiate instruction dynamically, not only during advance planning
  • Serving as the engaging, energetic adult presence your K-2 students are excited to see each day
What You Won’t Be Doing
  • Implementing a published reading curriculum, scripted program, or district pacing calendar; you create lessons directly from student data
  • Delivering whole-class lectures; all teaching occurs in small, targeted groups while students complete academic subjects through adaptive apps
  • Serving as a reading consultant, instructional coach, or district-level specialist; you work in the classroom with children daily
  • Managing a conventional classroom schedule—subject-by-subject lectures, homework reviews, test preparation; your time is allocated to workshops, motivation sessions, and data-informed small groups
  • Assessing homework or preparing report cards; student achievement is tracked through app data and your running records
