This role partners with Design Engineering, Project Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, and Logistics to support product launches, continuous improvement, and supplier packaging programs.

Essential Functions
  • Design and specify protective packaging for new and existing products (boxes, trays, inserts, cushioning, pallets, films, labels).
  • Develop packaging concepts that meet protection, cost, sustainability and manufacturability targets.
  • Create packaging drawings and specifications using CAD and produce bill-of-materials and artwork guidance.
  • Support development of product and shipping package labeling.
  • Perform and/or coordinate packaging tests: drop, vibration, compression, atmospheric, and transport simulation (ISTA, ASTM, ISTA 1A/3A/6, ASTM D4169 etc.).
  • Lead packaging validation and qualification activities for new product introductions and for design changes.
  • Manage internal packaging trials and work with external test labs and packaging suppliers to validate designs.
  • Implement packaging cost-reduction and material-reduction initiatives, including returnable/reusable packaging and pallet optimization.
  • Ensure packaging complies with applicable regulations and customer requirements (packaging waste regulations, hazardous material labeling, country‑specific marking).
  • Support supplier selection, audits and supplier packaging specifications; review supplier‑initiated packaging changes.
  • Monitor packaging KPIs (damage rates, cost per unit, cube utilization, on‑time delivery of packaging components) and provide actionable reporting.
  • Maintain packaging data in PLM/ERP and ensure packaging documents are controlled.
  • Troubleshoot packaging‑related field failures and implement CAPA in partnership with Quality.
  • Support sustainability initiatives: material recyclability, reduced packaging weight/volume, and packaging take‑back where applicable.
  • Provide training and guidance to production and warehouse teams on proper pack out and palletization methods.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Practical experience with packaging testing standards and test protocols (drop, vibration, compression).
  • Proficiency with CAD for packaging and part/fixture design (Solid Works, AutoCAD, Artios CAD or similar).
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing and supply chain interfaces (palletization, kitting, vendor pack).
  • Ability to work cross‑functionally.
  • Good communication skills and experience working with cross‑function teams and external suppliers.
  • Familiarity with packaging sustainability initiatives and recyclable/bioplastic materials.
Required

Education and Experience
