CAD Drafting Supervisor

General DescriptionThe Drafting Supervisor is responsible for leading and overseeing a team of Cable Assembly Drafting staff in the preparation and revision of cable harness/detail drawings for fiber optic cable assemblies. This role ensures the team delivers high‑quality, accurate technical drawings on schedule while collaborating closely with component engineering, sales, manufacturing, and quality teams. The supervisor drives team performance, continuous improvement, and adherence to company/industry standards and customer requirements.
EssentialFunctions
- Lead and supervise the daily activities of the Cable Assembly Drafting team
- Ensure the team is focused on priorities per the drawing/change notice schedule
- Determine and monitor team capacity required to meet the schedule and adjust resources as needed
- Ensure the team has the necessary tools, training, and support to execute activities in an accurate and timely manner
- Promote team and continuous improvement initiatives across the drafting team and the company
- Use a data‑driven approach to determine process improvements and monitor progress
- Oversee the preparation of layouts, assembly, and detail drawings for fiber optic cable assemblies based on inputs from Sales and internal stakeholders
- Work with component engineering to obtain and maintain accurate internal template libraries for cable assembly components
- Route drawings for review, ensure proper sign‑off, and submit for final release in accordance with company procedures
- Analyze various design requirements and recommend possible solutions or alternate constructions when appropriate
- Align drawings with corresponding bills of materials (BOMs)
- Partner with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to resolve drawing or design‑related issues
- Participate in design reviews to ensure manufacturability, compliance, and accuracy
- Ensure adherence to internal/external drafting standards
- Support the development and improvement of drafting templates and documentation processes
- Ability to read (write and speak in English) and interpret assembly drawings/specifications from internal and external sources.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Proficient in AutoCAD/Visio, Solid Works (preferred) or equivalent 3D modeling software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail oriented.
- Strong understanding of best practices in customer service.
- Strong team player.
Education and Experience
- Associate's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required (Bachelor’s preferred).
- 3‑5 years’ experience in a related field.
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident to satisfy AFSI ITAR requirements.
