The purpose of this position is to facilitate recreational activities for City of Allen and surrounding area residents at the Joe Farmer Recreation Center. Other duties may include registering citizens for classes, activities, processing POS transactions, registering citizens for membership, assisting in opening and closing duties, maintaining the facility, providing various administrative services and interfacing with other City employees and citizens.
This position does not provide direction to other employees.
- Primarily responsible for the transportation of senior citizens to and from the Senior Center, including assisting with motor vehicle boarding and mobility assistance during field trips.
- Responsible for setting up and breaking down activity rooms for weekly events, including moving tables and chairs.
- Provides customer service by greeting members, answering phone calls, providing facility information, distributing equipment, supervising member activities and answering member questions.
- Registers citizens for classes and activities using membership software, entering data, taking payments, filing records and providing pertinent information.
- Processes POS transactions by operating ACTIVE software, recording sales and taking payments.
- Registers citizens for membership, ensuring necessary paperwork is completed and filed, entering information and accepting payments.
- Assists in opening and closing facility duties, accounting for cash levels and printing reports for daily transaction reconciliation.
- Maintains the facility interior and exterior, reporting complaints, handling customer complaints, identifying risks and forecasting potential problems.
- Provides various administrative services such as ensuring safety, assisting with development of brochures and marketing tools, maintaining supply levels and assisting with special events.

- High School diploma or equivalent with no prior relevant work experience.
- Clear criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen.
- CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within sixty (60) days of employment.
- Food Handlers Certification or ability to obtain within thirty (30) days of employment.
- This is a part‑time, seasonal position, employment will end on August 7, 2026.
- Shift is Tuesday‑Friday 2:30pm‑6:30pm and Saturday 8:00am‑12:00pm.
- Assist with some special events.
- Schedule may be modified if department needs arise.
- May be required to work overtime if needed.
- Dress code: khaki, black, or navy pants, COA shirt. Jeans are allowed on Fridays and weekends; shorts allowed during summer months (May‑September).
Medium - Exerting 20‑50 lbs. occasionally, 10‑25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly. This position requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
Knowledge Of- Customer service practices in a community or recreation setting.
- Senior programs, facility operations, and event logistics.
- Recreation software systems (e.g., ACTIVE Net) for registration and payments.
- POS transactions, cash handling, and daily reconciliation.
- Safe lifting and mobility assistance techniques for seniors and equipment.
- Room setup/teardown for events and activities.
