The mission of the Allen Institute’s Administration team is to provide support and structure to the scientific divisions. Coinciding with the team science approach, administration helps facilitate team learning and the overall mission of the institute.

The Audio Visual (AV) Technician III assumes responsibility for overseeing all AV and technical aspects pre and post meetings and corporate events. Working closely with the Facilities and IT teams, the AV Technician III conducts rigorous testing of equipment and AV systems, ensuring seamless functionality and providing end-user support when necessary. Additionally, this role collaborates with the Events & Communication teams to facilitate setup and teardown for corporate events and meetings.

Following all guidelines, requirements, and procedures, you will implement improvements as well as demonstrate advanced problem-solving skills, organizational and interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic, and a sense of individual responsibility. In addition, you will need to troubleshoot complex technical issues under pressure.

Essential Functions
  • Install, configure, and test AV equipment and systems, including projectors, sound systems, microphones, video walls, lighting, and control systems, in various event venues and meeting spaces.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to AV equipment, connectivity, and software, both proactively and reactively, to minimize disruptions during events.
  • Oversee maintenance contracts and repair services.
  • Provide high-level AV best practices training, tutorials, and write SOPs to empower Institute staff to run/manage basic meeting setups on their own.
  • Support Events & Communication teams with corporate event setup and teardown.
  • Train and mentor junior AV technicians on proper equipment operation, troubleshooting techniques, and best practices for delivering high-quality AV services.
  • Maintain an inventory of AV equipment, accessories, and spare parts, performing regular inspections, repairs, and replacements as necessary to ensure availability and functionality.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and advancements in AV technology, attending training sessions and industry events to enhance technical knowledge and skills.
  • Provide excellent customer service and support, responding promptly to client inquiries and requests, and ensuring a positive experience throughout the event lifecycle.

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1 Year of experience in an AV Technician role or equivalent experience
  • Advanced technical proficiency with a wide range of AV equipment, software, and technologies, including but not limited to audio mixers, digital signal processors, video switchers, and control systems.
