Middle School Science Teacher
A full time Middle School Science Teacher for Allendale Public Schools who is dedicated to providing engaging, standards-aligned science instruction that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, problem solving, and hands-on learning. Among other responsibilities, the teacher will collaborate with colleagues, use assessment data to support student growth, and create a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students can be successful.
Qualifications:
- Must hold a valid State of Michigan Teacher Certification.
- Must hold a DI (Integrated Science), DX or DQ endorsement. Additional ZG endorsement is preferred but not required.
- Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignments.
- Successful prior teaching experience in science is preferred but not required.
- Must meet the State of Michigan Professional Development requirements.
- Need to possess a passion for teaching middle school students.
- Demonstrate the use of interventions to support student learning, behavior, and attendance.
- Strong technology and computer skills are required.
- Excellent communication skills - oral and written.
- Regular and reliable attendance is expected.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Develops and administers the approved science curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to whole class, individualized, and small group instruction, and student learning.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for the subject area, and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Demonstrates ability to differentiate instruction by creating challenging and engaging learning opportunities for all students.
- Teaches knowledge and skills in science content.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learning of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional development meetings.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and policies.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within their department and grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Uses appropriate and approved books, instructional aids, and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
- Demonstrates an understanding of working with standards.
- Uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephones.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of a wide range of science subject areas.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others in this course of work.
- Ability to work in various environments.
