Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to produce accurate, competitive cost estimates for commercial and ground-up construction projects. The Construction Estimator will analyze plans and specifications, perform quantity takeoffs, coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers, and support the preconstruction and bidding processes to help secure profitable work while maintaining cost control and complying with client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and quantity takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and scope documents for commercial and ground-up construction projects.
• Use and maintain estimating software and spreadsheets to develop bids, proposals, and cost summaries.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather pricing, validate assumptions, and refine scopes.
• Develop and submit competitive bid proposals, including line-item breakdowns, schedules, and risk contingencies.
• Perform value engineering and provide alternative solutions to reduce costs while maintaining quality and schedule.
• Participate in preconstruction meetings and site visits to confirm site conditions, constructability, and stakeholder requirements.
• Maintain and update historical cost databases, unit cost files, and vendor pricing to ensure estimate accuracy.
• Assist in subcontractor solicitation, review subcontractor bids, and recommend selections based on price, scope, and qualifications.
• Support negotiation of contract terms and pricing during the award phase and provide clarification during contract execution.
• Track bid results and prepare bid analysis and lessons learned to improve estimating accuracy and win rates.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience as a Construction Estimator or similar role in the construction industry with demonstrated estimating experience.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, scheduling and cost structures for commercial and ground-up projects.
• Proven proficiency with Estimator and Construction skills; ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings and specifications.
• Experience with estimating software (Pro Est, Plan Swift, Bluebeam or similar) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Demonstrated experience preparing bids, cost breakdowns, and participating in preconstruction and bidding processes.
• Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills; ability to present estimates and assumptions to internal teams and clients.
• Ability to manage multiple estimating projects under time constraints and meet strict bid deadlines.
• Degree or certificate in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related field preferred; industry certifications a plus.
• Nice to have: direct experience with commercial construction, ground-up projects, cost control practices, bid solicitation, and preconstruction planning.
