About the Opportunity

Falcon Navigators are career and academic coaches who provide students with a personalized, sustained, consistent, and integrated advising support system. Navigators utilize academic advising, career advising, and academic coaching strategies to help students develop academic and career goals and guide them through developing a Falcon Flight Plan. They serve as the student's point of contact, from entry to graduation, to clarify academic career goals and recommend experiences, courses, and support resources to achieve these goals.

Navigators assist students with course registration and respond to academic alerts for their assigned students. Navigators also assist students who stop out from the college to facilitate their return.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide academic advising, career counseling, and success coaching to assigned students, including students returning after a leave of absence or withdrawal.

* Teach students how to translate their College experiences into language that reflects career competencies and marketable skills.

* Help students develop Falcon Flight Plans; assist students with academic and career setting and monitor progress towards goals

* Provide information for students about experiential learning opportunities and encourage participation.

* Connect students to College and community resources to support persistence using tools such as Finish Line and Single Stop.

* Serve as a primary academic advisor for students as indicated, as a point of contact for all assigned students regarding academic concerns and questions, including course registration and academic planning

* Manage the four-year guarantee program and 3-year degree declaration process.

* Collaborate with campus partners to create and deliver tools to integrate career, academic, and co-curricular experiences, such as the Falcon Flight Plan.

* Maintain accurate records of student interactions

* Assist in the assessment and evaluation of the Navigator program.

* Develop collaborative relationships with faculty and staff.

* Serve as an active member of Academic Services, providing support to other programs as needed.

What We're Looking For

Education and Experience

* Bachelor's degree required. Preferred:
Master's degree in Higher Education or other related field.

* At least two years related experience in higher education is preferred; academic advising or career advising experience is preferred.

Essential Skills

* Knowledge of student development theories

* Knowledge of academic advising theories and principles.

* Familiarity with NACE career competencies and career development theories

* Self-motivated, flexible, and excited to be a part of a new initiative

* Willingness to accept and incorporate feedback

* Ability to collaborate closely with faculty and staff.

* Ability to prioritize workload and maintain high degrees of productivity with minimal supervision.

* Ability to communicate effectively in writing

* Excellent verbal communication/interpersonal skills

* Ability to exhibit compassion, empathy, and good judgment

Physical Requirements

* Visual and hearing ability to perform all required duties related to the position with reasonable accommodation.

* Sufficient manual dexterity to operate a PC and office equipment with reasonable accommodation.

* Evening/weekend hours may be required.

Complexity

* Ability to make ethical decisions at times where judgement is required.

* Must be able to manage complex data, assessment, and reporting.

* Ability to understand, interpret, and accurately communicate complex College policies.

* Must be able to perform multiple concurrent tasks.

Interpersonal/Supervisory/Management Skills

* Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse student body as well as the ability to work comfortably in complex interpersonal situations.

* Integrity to ensure confidentiality in handling sensitive student issues.
