High School Step Team Coach
Qualifications:
- Experience:
Previous coaching experience, preferably with step teams, dance, or related performing arts teams. - Knowledge:
Understanding of step performance techniques, choreography, and safe practices. - Skills:
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to inspire, motivate, and build team spirit. - Clearances: PA State Police, Child Abuse and FBI Background check
- Education:
High school diploma required; college coursework or degree in physical education, dance, or related fields preferred. - Passion for the Arts: A passion for stepping, dance, and working with high school students.
The Step Team Coach is responsible for developing and leading the high school step team, providing coaching and mentorship, and ensuring a positive, inclusive, and dynamic experience for student athletes. The coach will oversee training sessions, choreograph routines, and guide team members in competitions and performances. This role requires a passion for stepping, strong leadership, and the ability to foster teamwork and discipline among students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Management:
Lead and manage the high school step team, including recruitment, retention, and development of team members. - Practice Planning & Execution:
Plan and lead team practices, ensuring safe and effective training, and fostering skill development. - Choreography & Routine Development:
Create and teach routines, ensuring that they are innovative, safe, and in line with the school's values and standards. - Performance & Competitions:
Prepare the team for local and regional performances and competitions, including overseeing transportation, equipment, and logistics. - Safety &
Risk Management:
Maintain a safe practice environment, ensuring all activities comply with school and district safety protocols. - Team Motivation & Mentorship:
Foster a positive, inclusive, and motivating environment where students develop confidence, teamwork, discipline, and respect. - Communication:
Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, and school staff. Regularly update parents on team activities, progress, and upcoming events. - Administrative Tasks:
Complete necessary administrative tasks, including scheduling, paperwork, and ensuring all required forms are submitted on time. - Collaboration:
Work closely with the athletic department, other coaches, and school staff to support student athletes and promote school spirit.
- This is a part-time, seasonal position during the school year.
- Practices typically occur after school hours (e.g., 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM).
- Travel to competitions and performances may be required.
