Overview

A Travel Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) supports healthcare facilities across multiple locations by installing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of medical equipment. This role requires strong technical expertise, adaptability, and the ability to work independently while traveling to hospitals, clinics, and specialty care centers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on medical devices to ensure compliance with safety and performance standards.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair biomedical equipment including patient monitors, infusion pumps, defibrillators, ventilators, and other clinical devices.
  • Respond to service calls across assigned regions, often on short notice, to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Document all maintenance activities, repairs, parts usage, and equipment performance in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements.
  • Install and configure new medical equipment, ensuring proper operation and user readiness.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to provide technical support, equipment training, and operational guidance.
  • Maintain inventory of tools, test equipment, and spare parts while traveling.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, manufacturer guidelines, and regulatory bodies such as The Joint Commission.
  • Communicate effectively with facility leadership, vendors, and internal teams regarding equipment status and service needs.
Qualifications
  • Experience servicing a variety of medical devices in a clinical environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to travel extensively, including overnight stays.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and regulatory requirements for medical equipment.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and time‑management abilities.
Preferred Skills
  • OEM or military biomedical training.
  • Certification such as CBET, CLES, or CRES.
  • Associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent military training).
  • Experience with networked medical devices and basic IT connectivity.
  • Ability to work independently in fast‑paced or unfamiliar environments.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and move equipment (typically up to 50 lbs).
  • Comfortable working in hospitals, clinics, labs, and emergency care environments.
