A Travel Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) supports healthcare facilities across multiple locations by installing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of medical equipment. This role requires strong technical expertise, adaptability, and the ability to work independently while traveling to hospitals, clinics, and specialty care centers.
Key Responsibilities- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on medical devices to ensure compliance with safety and performance standards.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair biomedical equipment including patient monitors, infusion pumps, defibrillators, ventilators, and other clinical devices.
- Respond to service calls across assigned regions, often on short notice, to minimize equipment downtime.
- Document all maintenance activities, repairs, parts usage, and equipment performance in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements.
- Install and configure new medical equipment, ensuring proper operation and user readiness.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to provide technical support, equipment training, and operational guidance.
- Maintain inventory of tools, test equipment, and spare parts while traveling.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, manufacturer guidelines, and regulatory bodies such as The Joint Commission.
- Communicate effectively with facility leadership, vendors, and internal teams regarding equipment status and service needs.
- Experience servicing a variety of medical devices in a clinical environment.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to travel extensively, including overnight stays.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Familiarity with safety standards and regulatory requirements for medical equipment.
- Excellent communication, customer service, and time‑management abilities.
- OEM or military biomedical training.
- Certification such as CBET, CLES, or CRES.
- Associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent military training).
- Experience with networked medical devices and basic IT connectivity.
- Ability to work independently in fast‑paced or unfamiliar environments.
- Ability to lift and move equipment (typically up to 50 lbs).
- Comfortable working in hospitals, clinics, labs, and emergency care environments.
