Monitors, maintains, improves, and develops electrical systems and controls for production equipment. This role focuses on automation, PLC programming, sensor integration, and electrical troubleshooting to enhance equipment reliability, safety, and performance under the direction of the Engineering/Maintenance Supervisor and Operations staff.
Responsibilities- Understand and abide by all Company safety rules, regulations, and policies. Ensure that safe and sanitary working conditions are maintained in the facility in accordance with Company standards, as well as state & federal laws and regulations. Know and understand your OSHA rights. Conduct safety training topics as required or needed. Responsible for attending all assigned safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety training sessions.
As required, promptly investigate accidents and near misses, completing appropriate reports and taking action to eliminate root causes. - Support daily production schedules through the timely troubleshooting and repair of faulty equipment, both electrical and mechanical in nature (e.g. PLCs, HMIs, sensors, servo motors, wiring, etc.).
- Conduct root cause analysis of machine faults and maintenance repairs with recommendations for process or machinery improvements.
- Collect and analyze data to ensure machine performance is maintained and to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Work with Engineering team to identify, support, and lead projects focused on improving the safety, efficiency, and capacity of manufacturing equipment, automation, and processes.
- Design and implement automation improvements such as integrating sensors, controls devices, or other electrical upgrades. Modify PLC programs to support upgraded equipment as necessary.
- Maintain documentation for electrical systems, schematics, and control logic.
- Perform cost analyses and writes justifications for proposed capital projects.
- Examine and approve engineering drawings, design computations, etc. to ensure compliance with sound engineering practices and safe operating standards, codes and regulations.
- Inspect materials, workmanship, as well as mechanical and electrical installations for conformance to plans and specification.
- Develop and maintain effective lines of communication between manufacturing personnel, supervisory personnel, engineering team, management, and outside contacts as required.
- Assist in maintaining spare part inventories, to include cataloguing of components and suggesting items to be on stock as equipment history is obtained.
- Support the development, implementation, and enhancement of an effective preventative maintenance (PM) program to ensure consistent equipment performance.
