Calibration Technician
This role focuses on performing precise calibration, inspection, and maintenance of measurement and test equipment across multiple disciplines to ensure compliance with published specifications. The calibration technician uses modern test equipment and metrology principles to troubleshoot, repair, and optimize precision instruments while delivering accurate documentation and excellent customer service. The position requires a detail-oriented, self-motivated professional who enjoys working in a collaborative, mission-driven environment and is willing to travel to customer sites during the week as needed.
Responsibilities
- Calibrate inspection, measurement, and test equipment (IM&TE) in one or more disciplines, including Acoustical, Chemical, Dimensional, DC/Low Frequency, RF/Microwave, Fluid, Mechanical, Optical, Thermodynamics, and Time & Frequency, to ensure compliance with published specifications.
- Maintain secondary and working calibration standards to support accurate and reliable measurement processes.
- Perform basic maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of precision equipment to restore and maintain optimal performance.
- Collect, compile, measure, summarize, and record data gathered during calibration activities in an accurate and organized manner.
- Identify out-of-tolerance conditions and perform corrective actions, including adjustments, component replacement, and application of correction factors.
- Identify and correct measurement errors where applicable to ensure the integrity of calibration results.
- Prepare clear and accurate calibration reports and certificates in accordance with established procedures.
- Adapt existing calibration equipment, standards, and techniques to accomplish unique or non-standard measurement tasks.
- Train less experienced technicians in calibration concepts, procedures, and best practices.
- Collaborate and interact with other technicians, Customer Service Representatives, Account Managers, and customers to support calibration projects and resolve issues.
- Travel to customer sites from Monday through Thursday, including occasional overnight trips, to perform on-site calibration and related services.
- Follow written procedures, work instructions, and quality standards to ensure consistent and compliant calibration activities.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support team and organizational goals.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of one year of calibration experience, with some experience potentially offset by formal metrology training.
- Hands-on calibration experience using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and power supplies.
- Basic ability to troubleshoot, repair, align, and optimize precision equipment.
- Fundamental understanding of metrology principles and test equipment operation.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in measurements and documentation.
- Very good interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to interact professionally with internal teams and external customers.
- Ability to work as a self-motivated team player and follow written procedures consistently.
- Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites from Monday through Thursday, including approximately one overnight trip per month.
- High school diploma or equivalent education.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience calibrating equipment in one or more of the following disciplines:
Acoustical, Chemical, Dimensional, DC/Low Frequency, RF/Microwave, Fluid, Mechanical, Optical, Thermodynamics, and Time & Frequency. - Experience maintaining secondary and working calibration standards.
- Experience identifying and correcting measurement errors and out-of-tolerance conditions through adjustments and component replacement.
- Experience preparing detailed calibration reports and certificates.
- Ability to adapt existing calibration equipment and techniques to support unique or specialized measurement tasks.
- Experience training or mentoring other technicians in calibration concepts and procedures.
- Interest in working with equipment used in life-saving applications, such as medical and aerospace/defense systems.
- Comfort working in a team-oriented, mission-focused environment that values camaraderie and collaboration.
Work Environment
The role is based in a laboratory environment that is not a clean room, providing a professional and technical setting for calibration work. You will work alongside approximately 15 other technicians in a team-oriented atmosphere that emphasizes collaboration, camaraderie, and shared mission. The lab uses state-of-the-art equipment to support calibration across a wide range of disciplines and technologies.
