Agency Description

The Health and Human Services Cabinet (HHS) is comprised of the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual Disabilities Services (DBHIDS), the Office of Homeless Services, the Department of Public Health (PDPH), and the Office of Domestic Violence Strategies (ODVS). In addition, MDO-HHS manages the Mayor’s Commission on Services to the Aging (MCOA), a Data Management Office and an Audit Unit. The mission of the Cabinet is to ensure the health and well-being, safety, and appropriate support for all Philadelphians, particularly the most vulnerable children and adults.

Job Description

Position Summary

The Office of Domestic Violence has the mission to improve the City’s response to gender-based violence by providing technical assistance to the Health and Human Services (HHS) and other City departments. The Office of Domestic Violence is also the backbone of Shared Safety, a coordinated community response to relational violence, and is a member of the Domestic Violence Law Enforcement Committee.

As the only city office solely focusing on domestic violence and other types of gender-based violence, ODVS has been the main convener of the Act 79 Working Group, a multi-systems team that coordinates enforcement of firearms relinquishment in Protection From Abuse Orders (PFAs).

The Act 79 Coordinator will be part of the Act 79 Working Group and will act as a liaison between the Family Court, Sheriff’s Office, Philadelphia Police Department (PPD), District Attorney’s Office, and PFA petitioners.

Essential Functions

  • Establish communication channels with the Family Court, Sheriff’s Office, and PPD to ensure access to PFAs with firearms relinquishment and accurate information about the status of each case.
  • Contact PFA petitioners and keep them informed of the status of PFA service and firearm relinquishment.
  • Compile and report on relinquishment data on a regular basis.
  • Actively manage tasks to ensure project requirements are achieved in a timely fashion and within budget guidelines, including tracking key project milestones.
  • Quickly address problems that arise and make recommendations regarding adjustments to leadership as needed.
  • Convene and chair project meetings with internal stakeholders and external partners and document meeting minutes.
  • Prepare status reports, status summaries, and dashboards for presentation to mid and senior-level management.
  • Support the work of the Director of the Office of Domestic Violence Strategies and Sr. Project Manager through creative brainstorming, research and evaluation, and partnership with community and City agencies.
