Job Description

The Electrical Technician is responsible for maintaining equipment in optimal running conditions. The role determines causes of electrical, mechanical breakdowns, repairs, and returns equipment to proper operating order in minimum time.

Responsibilities
  • Perform electrical maintenance on all equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment as needed.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all manufacturing equipment.
  • Assist operators when necessary.
  • Understand PLC logic.
  • Use laptop for troubleshooting.
  • Make modifications to existing PLC programs.
  • Write new logic to accommodate new PLC programs.
  • Work with AC/DC drive systems.
  • Manage projects through the entire life cycle, accurately revise machine drawings using industry-standard symbols and representation, and develop electrical and mechanical drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Assist in the maintenance of spare parts inventory and use machine shop tools (welder, drill press, mill, roll grinder, lathes, gas torch, etc.).
  • Describe how components interact with each other.
  • Identify different types of bearings and belts, and understand hazards associated with all machines.
  • Identify potential machinery failures and/or worn parts and “dry run” all machinery.
  • Read and understand hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical drawings when available; troubleshoot when drawings are missing.
  • Assist in special projects including equipment installation, machine and building modifications, and safety improvements.
  • Install and maintain electrical and electronics systems of the plant and equipment.
  • Layout and repair machine parts; operate typical tools to machine parts to exacting tolerances.
  • Diagnose machine malfunctions and make required repairs and adjustments to keep machines in production.
  • Assemble, align units and machines, make sketches of parts, and maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Be available for call‑in for equipment and building maintenance problems.
  • Maintain Amcor Certified Electrical Worker status.
  • Follow all safety guidelines for lockout/tag out and execute applicable Environmental Health & Safety programs to provide a safe and clean workplace.
Qualifications & Experience
  • AAS in Mechanical/Electrical field (preferred).
  • 2-5 years of industrial maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems (distribution, circuits, wiring, fuses, switches, relays).
  • Understanding of PLC ladder logic, I/O, and machine control devices.
  • Knowledge of lubrication procedures, use of oil and grease.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems (belts, pulleys, gears, motors, transmissions).
  • Ability to read schematics and blueprints and trace problems.
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and devices.
  • Minimum two-to-three years technical training.
  • Certification in NFPA 70E or certifiable AutoCAD or E‑drawing knowledge.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, use a hoist, bend, twist, squat, walk/stand on concrete for 6‑9 hours, and operate in a non-climate-controlled facility.
Language & Mathematical Skills

Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English. Must have very good mathematical skills with abilities to use electrical measuring and gauging tools.

Safety & Physical Demands

Adheres to safety policies and procedures in compliance with AEP guidelines, including wearing PPE. Visually inspects production area for tripping hazards, equipment safeguards, employees’ safety, and adherence to policies. Maintains compliance with OSHA and company housekeeping rules.
