Overview
Position:
Registered Nurse – Corrections (SCI Smithfield).
We are looking for dedicated Registered Nurses to deliver direct nursing care in a correctional setting.
Responsibilities- Patient Care:
Assess inmate health needs and provide treatments, medication, and daily living assistance. - Clinical Support:
Assist physicians during examinations and clinics, and administer tests, immunizations, and screenings. - Emergency Response:
Provide first aid, CPR, AED use, and other urgent care actions during medical emergencies. - Record Keeping:
Document care, maintain medical records, and prepare reports to ensure accurate health information. - Team Coordination:
Share shift reports, communicate essential information, and support continuity of care across staff. - Infection Control:
Follow required procedures to maintain safety, sanitation, and quality improvement standards.
- Full‑time employment, 40‑hour work week.
- The Department of Corrections is staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
- Shift Structure:
- 1st shift: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
- 2nd shift: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
- 3rd shift: 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM
- Work hours to be determined.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework:
Not available.
Competitive income, generous paid time off, health insurance, and a retirement package. The starting salary is $88,130 (before taxes). Eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
Qualifications- Active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
- All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within one (1) year as defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- If within 60 days of graduating from a school of nursing approved by the State Board of Nursing, you are eligible to apply. Proof of a current, valid PA temporary practice permit or PA Registered Nurse license must be presented at appointment.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
- 711 (hearing and speech disabilities or other individuals).
