Job Summary

Geisinger offers a $1,500 sign‑on bonus for eligible candidates, a minimum hiring rate of $16.25 per hour with increased rates for experienced individuals, up to $3 shift differentials for evening, nights, and weekend shifts, and up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse.

Responsibilities
  • Perform a wide range of clerical duties and direct patient care activities depending on the unit’s needs.
  • Provide patient care within the nursing assistant scope of practice, following individual multidisciplinary care plans.
  • Identify, observe, and document patients’ physical needs according to established standards.
  • Report any changes in patient condition to licensed personnel in a timely manner.
  • Obtain and maintain the integrity of specimens in accordance with policy, procedure, and physician orders.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene and changing linens.
  • Provide one‑to‑one patient safety watch as assigned, following established policies and procedures.
  • Accurately process specimens and transport them to the laboratory.
  • Perform point‑of‑care patient testing and maintain instruments with quality control.
  • Assist in problem solving, troubleshooting, and taking corrective measures for equipment and supplies.
  • Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students in a positive manner.
  • Perform clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths according to standards and facilitate patient throughput activities.
  • Transcribe and process orders according to unit standards, releasing and confirming ordered tests to appropriate departments.
  • Coordinate transportation of patients to multiple tests and schedule tests, faxes, and consults.
  • Assist in ordering supplies, stationery items, floor stock, patient needs, and individual nursing supplies.
  • Communicate with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets.
  • Operate and troubleshoot clerical equipment and perform scheduled maintenance of computers, fax machines, phones, etc.
  • Transport non‑controlled medications to and from pharmacy and within the unit as needed.
  • Assist in transporting blood products to and from the blood bank as needed.
  • Account for all duties and comply with all organizational policies and procedures.

Position Details

Full‑time, evenings/night shifts (36 hours per week), 3‑ to 12‑hour shifts, 7:00pm to 7:30am, every other weekend and holiday rotation required.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) – required.
  • Certification(s) and License(s):
    Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (American Heart Association).
  • Preferred:
    Enrollment in an accredited RN or LPN program (Student Nurse Associate role considered).
