Position: Temp - MTMLT - Laboratory (Evenings) Alliance NE
MTs possess the technical ability and problem-solving skills to perform all tests (both manual and automated) in the clinical laboratory. They must have the capability to conduct all aspects of procedural and instrument troubleshooting, method evaluation, establishment and maintenance of quality management and safety programs, as well as interpret the technical acceptability of test results. The MT demonstrates management and supervisory skills, and an ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with other members of the health care team, representatives of external regulatory agencies, and service consumers.

In-depth knowledge of the pathophysiologic and biochemical basis for various laboratory procedures is essential for correlation of test results and to ensure optimal communication of information with health professionals. Commitment to providing the highest quality of health care is demonstrated by the participation of the MT in external and in-service educational programs to maintain currency of professional knowledge while serving as a resource for other laboratory personnel.

MTs perform laboratory tests, with a network of steps and variables, according to established protocols and with limited supervision. They must properly collect, handle process and store specimens. MTs operate instruments that are often computer-integrated and networked and use computerized information systems. They compare test results to pre-established criteria (reference ranges) and make decisions regarding the reportability of results, thus exercising independent judgment.

MTs may assume some administrative responsibilities and act as a resource for other laboratory personnel.

MTs are accountable for the quality of laboratory services provided. This is accomplished, in part, through participation in performance improvement initiatives. The MT identifies and communicates needed resources or equipment to be included in budgets. All aspects of the MTs performance support service excellence. MTs demonstrate privacy, respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
