Salary Range: Entry rate approx. $240.64 per day with an average annual salary of $70,000 - $82,000.

Responsibilities- Communication responsibilities: obtain, receive, and act on information (oral and written) through various devices, monitor and report daily work, and perform tasks such as climbing on/off equipment, managing hand brakes, connecting/disconnecting air hoses, replacing broken railcar knuckles, interpreting signals, and controlling speed and clearance distances.
- Switching functions: operate track switches and derails to change train routing and check switch points for proper alignment.
- Train and equipment inspections: switch and spot cars, determine train make-up, and inspect cars per federal regulations; monitor track conditions and report on passing train conditions.
- Daily work is conducted in a safety-sensitive environment with diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet), uneven surfaces, loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery.
- Must adhere to safety rules, policies, and federal and state regulations; wear personal protective equipment and respond to emergencies.
- Full-time (40 hours/week) with on-call (24/7), nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Frequent travel required; ability to travel to and stay in the designated seniority region for extended periods.
- 24-week training (company-paid on-the-job and classroom training, including travel to Overland Park, KS).
- No relocation assistance; 60-day probationary period after training.
- Primary Recall obligation: a three-year obligation (from date of hire) to return to the hiring location if called back.
- Must be able to work safely in diverse weather conditions, lift 80 pounds, and perform tasks at various heights.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English, and visually distinguish colors and signals.
- Union membership is required with the SMART‑TD or BLET; union dues are required per agreement.
- Seniority district transfers may require up to 3 years’ employment and Director approval.
- Work now and in the future without BNSF’s assistance in obtaining or extending employment authorization.
- At least 18 years of age (or will be by the start date).
- Ability to report for duty at the designated work location.
- Ability to work safely in the above working conditions, shift, and travel requirements.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds.
- Ability to identify, interpret, and use hand signals and hand tools.
- Ability to climb ladders and work at various heights.
- Ability to walk on uneven surfaces and sit frequently.
