Employment Status:
Regular/Full-Time ~ 185 days per year

Reports to:

Building Principal and Special Education Director

As an Education Specialist at ACS, you will:

* provide small group and one-on-one instruction to students requiring support in the areas of reading, writing, math, adaptive skills, social-emotional skills and other areas as needed.

* communicate on-going student progress to parents/guardians, general education teachers, school administration, district personnel, and other service professionals via progress reporting and Individual Education Plans.

* be responsible for maintaining on-going compliance in accordance with IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act).

Description:

You will work under the general supervision of the School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university

* Masters Degree in related area Preferred

* Appropriate State of Ohio certifications/license in the appropriate grade level

* Prior teaching experience is preferable

* Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiating instruction based upon student learning styles.

* Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.

Essential Functions:

* Ensure safety of students

* Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and present clear, complete and accurate explanations utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and media suitable to the level of learners

* Maintain respect at all times for confidential information

* Attend meetings, in-services and/or training programs as required per negotiated agreement and Superintendent or designee

* Observe ethics of the teaching profession

* Follow/support/carry out the district and building mission statement

* Refer attendance, health, and psychological/emotional problems to Principal and/or Guidance Counselor

* Develop and administer school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.

* Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.

* Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction

* Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.

* Instruct students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws, as well as administrative regulations and procedures of the school system.

* Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.

* Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.

* Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.

* Ensure that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

* Coordinate with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
