Overview
Under the supervision of the Director of Admission, Admission Counselors at the University of Mount Union attain recruitment goals within designated territories and target groups. They participate fully in all recruitment activities that lead to the University’s enrollment goals, support and guide students through the college selection process, and foster enthusiasm among high‑school students seeking admission.
The position requires regular travel around the assigned region, establishing, building, and managing relationships with high‑school guidance personnel, and maintaining confidentiality and integrity in all interactions. Counselors represent the University, manage annual recruitment programs within budget, and consult regularly with the Director of Admission.
Responsibilities- Coordinate significant annual recruitment programs or activities, such as specialized visit events or projects focused on target groups.
- Travel throughout the assigned region as needed throughout the year, with a focus on an 8‑10 week fall travel season.
- Plan and organize travel schedules based on historical territory data and the university strategic plan.
- Maintain a valid, non‑suspended Ohio driver’s license at all times and meet the criteria to drive a University vehicle.
- Establish, build, and manage both new and mature relationships between the University and high‑school guidance personnel within the assigned region.
- Facilitate and communicate with prospective students and their parents regarding admission into the University.
- Draft letters and emails to prospective students and their parents.
- Review admission files and recommend admission into the University based upon University criteria and holistic review of each student record.
- Coordinate and implement individual and group visits to the University.
- Work with the Athletic department, faculty, and staff across campus.
- Participate as an active member of the Office of Admission staff at all events, including evenings and weekends.
- Maintain the integrity and consistency of recruitment data within the territory.
- Enhance professional growth and development through participation in continuing education courses, professional organizations, seminars and workshops, reading current literature, and maintaining professional contacts in the community.
- Participate in University compliance training as communicated by the University and the Director of Admission.
- Serve on University Committees as approved by the Director of Admission or the Vice President for Enrollment Management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
A bachelor’s degree is required. Experience in higher education, particularly small, private undergraduate institutions, is preferred. The candidate must possess excellent oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills to effectively market the University and work with both traditional and nontraditional age applicants. Demonstrated experience completing multiple projects and responsibilities is necessary. The position requires a valid, non‑suspended Ohio driver’s license and the ability to drive a University vehicle.
