Job Description:
The RFID Press Operator is responsible for the setup and operation of the converting press used to manufacture RFID-enabled labels, tags. This role involves not only standard printing and die-cutting duties but also the precise insertion of RFID inlays (wet or dry) into labels. The operator must ensure all products meet strict electronic performance standards (RF reading) and visual quality specifications while maintaining high-speed production efficiency.
This is a 2nd shift position. Training on First Shift for the first 3-4 months.
- Set up and operate RFID converting equipment according to job tickets and engineering specifications.
- Perform precise web-handling tasks, including splicing master rolls of face stock, liners, and RFID inlay reels.
- Calibrate sensors and servo motors.
- Operate inline rotary die-cutting, slitting, perforation, and waste matrix removal.
- Operate inline RFID verification systems (HF/UHF).
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on the press, including cleaning rollers, lubricating gears, and inspecting dies.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues.
- Accurately record production data and ready procedures.
- Mechanical Aptitude:
Strong ability to use hand tools, read rulers/calipers to the millimeter, and understand web tension mechanics. - Technical Proficiency:
Comfort working with computerized interface panels (HMIs) and sensor calibration. - Attention to Detail:
Ability to spot visual defects (print alignment) and electronic anomalies simultaneously.
- Understanding of RFID frequencies (UHF vs. HF/NFC) and basic tag construction.
- Experience with variable data printing or encoding.
- Ability to stand for long periods (8-12-hour shifts).
- Ability to lift and mount heavy rolls of paper/film (up to 50 lbs) and sensitive reels of RFID inlays.
- Good color vision and fine motor skills for precise adjustments.
