Schedules inbound and outbound shipments selecting the most cost efficient carrier that meets customer requirements. Plans work to meet shipping forecast requirements. Is responsible for evaluating carrier’s performance and selecting carriers based on PTC’s service requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Communicates with and coordinates support functions, as required, with carriers to schedule trucks to meet customer requirements in the most economical manner.
- Schedules all shipments based on best truckload rate/carrier performance; combines shipments with multiple customer orders to utilize truckload rates; schedules trucks in normal shipping hours to minimize overtime.
- Pre-schedules monthly shipping schedules for "key" customer accounts requiring interfacing with customer’s receiving department, establishing monthly shipment schedule and forwarding it to Inside Sales.
- Evaluates and develops new carriers based on rates and monitors service to meet customer requirements.
- Administrates the establishment and maintenance of contracts with carriers.
- Verifies status of unfinished orders that can be combined with finished inventory to make truckload shipments.
- Communicates and interfaces with transportation brokers to meet all requirements for export shipments.
- Provides shipping unit with adequate lead-time to prepare orders for loading.
- Provides information to the shipping unit for any special requirements to meet domestic/export shipments, including bulkheads and any special blocking or packaging instructions.
- Serves as liaison with inside sales department to ensure timely delivery to the customer.
- Updates status codes on all orders on "Billed Pile" (Finished Goods Inventory) report.
- Reviews Billed Pile report to evaluate steps necessary to reduce finished inventory.
- Ensures customer shipping dates are met in a timely manner after order is billed into Traffic Unit and released.
- Performs other job-related duties as required.
- Ensures responsibilities are carried out in accordance with the PTC Quality Management System and its policies, procedures, and work instructions.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Mathematical skills: calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; apply basic algebra and geometry.
- Reasoning ability: solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization; interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Computer literacy: work with programs such as Word, Excel, and HP programs (e.g., email).
- Must possess a valid driver’s license for business travel.
The noise level is usually moderate in the office; occasionally the employee may enter the manufacturing area where the noise level is loud and eye and ear protection must be worn.
