GENERAL SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Corrosion Technician performs internal and/or external corrosion testing and evaluation. Responsibilities include cathodic protection system testing and evaluation, pipe‑to‑soil testing, troubleshooting cathodic protection systems, installation of UT and/or corrosion coupon sensors, and determination of appropriate remedial measures.

The incumbent will test cathodic protection adequacy, perform internal corrosion testing and sampling, conduct in‑hole pipe inspections, determine and execute corrective actions, oversee or perform repairs, and document remedial actions and outcomes. This role is also responsible for entering and maintaining complex data within corrosion databases and GIS systems. Documentation includes mapping, communicating necessary repairs, and recording results for future reference within the System Integrity program and/or the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC).

This role will primarily support emerging technologies and application enhancements to optimize operational processes within the Distribution Integrity Management Program (DIMP – Corrosion Management). While corrosion knowledge is critical, the primary focus is on applying that expertise to enable digital innovation through platforms such as PCS, GIS, Microsoft Power Platform, and SAP. Responsibilities include project validation, regulatory support, system troubleshooting, and vendor coordination—ensuring regulatory compliance while minimizing waste and manual effort through scalable automation and system integration.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support emerging technologies and application enhancements, including User Acceptance Testing (UAT), to drive process optimization, regulatory updates, cost reductions, and waste elimination through digital innovation
  • Applications may include (but are not limited to): PCS (Mesa Tablets / Survey Manager), GIS, Power Platform (Power Apps, Power BI), Project Wise, and SAP
  • Validate project deliverables (e.g., Utility Network implementations) by ensuring alignment with definitions of done, stakeholder input, acceptance criteria, and project risk considerations to ensure value readiness
  • Perform provisioning and deprovisioning tasks for DIMP applications, including ownership of Active Directory (AD) groups
  • Support internal and external audits related to DIMP applications
  • Troubleshoot and resolve application issues to maintain regulatory compliance and operational continuity
  • Build and manage vendor relationships to support system performance and delivery
  • Work closely with the Distribution Corrosion Management team and, as needed, Transmission teams on daily operational and project‑based tasks
  • Maintain complex data, records, and technical documentation
  • Inspect field construction work and assist with new gas facility construction
  • Lead installation of complex cathodic protection system ground beds…
