Summary
The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care using the nursing process, performs ongoing assessment, delivers interventions, evaluates outcomes, acts as a team leader and resource, delegates duties, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, and meets the needs of all patients.
Responsibilities- (40%) Regularly assesses patient needs and delivers skilled nursing services as outlined in the physician‑authorized plan of care and evidence‑based practice standards.
- (30%) Provides direct patient care, including medication administration, treatments, patient education, call lights, transfers, alarm responses, and other appropriate duties.
- (20%) Evaluates the effectiveness of the treatment plan and collaborates with team members to update or revise the plan, using current information to improve patient outcomes.
- (10%) Maintains compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and hospital policies related to patient care.

- Participates in regulatory surveys and performance‑improvement activities.
- Engages in quality initiatives and patient‑experience programs.
- Attends monthly department meetings and reviews weekly communications.
- Assists with orientation and ongoing competency training.
- Ensures a safe and secure environment for patient care.
- Stays updated on current trends and professional standards within the specialty.
- Understands the role in emergency preparedness procedures.
- Obtains prenatal and antenatal history, performs assessments, identifies risk factors, and manages labor and delivery tasks as described in the provided obstetric competency details.
- Provides neonatal resuscitation and post‑delivery support per protocol.
- Registered Nurse (RN) – Current Michigan license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required within 1 month of hire or transfer
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – Required within 1 year of hire or transfer
- Dysrhythmia Interpretation Management (DIMC) – Telemetry competency required within 12 months
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – Required within 12 months of hire or transfer
- Fingerprinting – Required
- Techniques for Effective Aggression Management – Required within 6 months of hire or transfer (24 months for employees hired before 12/31/2023)
Associate degree in Nursing (BSN preferred).
Other Information- Completion of System Med/surg Pathway, cardiac care, telemetry monitoring, care of medical, bariatric, and surgical patients within 1 year of hire.
- Completion of dysphagia, transfer training, and FIM training within 1 year of hire and annually thereafter.
- Unit orientation within 6 months of hire or transfer.
- Orientation to all inpatient units and the emergency department within 1 year of hire or transfer.
- Interpersonal communication skills at all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Windows.
- Preferred specialty certification.
- Exposure to stressful, public, trauma, grief, and death situations.
- Ability to wear protective equipment, including latex or substitutes.
- Mobility throughout the facility, with or without assistive devices.
- Normal vision and hearing, with or without assistive devices.
- Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, and postural changes.
- Exposure to blood-borne pathogens; requires My Michigan Health blood‑borne pathogen and TB testing.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, maintain independent work, attend regularly, and remain alert.
- Dexterity for handling, reaching, grasping, and repetitive motions.
- Physical demand level:
Medium. Lifting of 21–50 lbs. occasionally (0–33% of the workday), 20 lbs. frequently (34–66% of the workday), and 10 lbs. constantly (67–100% of the workday).
