Job DescriptionUtility Locate Technician is responsible for accurately locating underground facilities including electric power lines, gas lines, and, minimally, fiber optic lines. The technician ensures compliance with client and state requirements, observes, locates, marks, and documents underground and exposed utility locations using multiple methods. Working independently or as part of a team under supervision, the technician must possess focus, skill, and the use of machinery and tools.
Duties- Locate underground facilities using a transmitter and connecting to buried facilities.
- Work and walk over all types of terrain in construction zones and residential, commercial, industrial, and rural areas in all weather conditions.
- Interpret job order tickets, blueprints, and maps to efficiently route and perform duties.
- Perform locates and emergency/on‑call locates during regular, overtime, and holiday hours as necessary to meet customer needs.
- Perform all work in a timely, professional, and efficient manner while effectively communicating with customers, co‑employees, and third parties.
- Communicate with management, contractors, and utility customers to ensure a damage‑free environment.
- Demonstrate knowledge of technology and tools required.
- Work with others in a supervised team environment.
- High School Diploma or equivalency (GED).
- State‑issued driver’s license.
- Ability to problem‑solve.
- Ability to read, interpret, and decipher multiple types of prints.
- Ability to lift over 50 lbs.
- Ability to walk/stand for multiple hours a day.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Pass a background screening (no violations within the last 5 years).
- Pass a DOT drug test (Company policy).
- Company vehicle, laptop, and smartphone.
